Cakewalk doesn't publish updates like MS. There are like 4 or 5 updates per year on software like SONAR and they get a lot of publicity. They are noted on the blog, in the forums, on the Cakewalk website splash screen and in the forums. Additionally, if you go to the support page for a particular product, you are given a list (and links) to all the updates with the most recent at the top. On those pages there is a date (at the bottom - this could be improved) which states when it was last updated.

Now that's exactly the kind of tenacity that makes an excellent engineer and producer. Your shelf will soon be groaning under the weight of all the Grammy awards.

I would detest a DAW software package that auto updates. Cake does a good job of publishing when an update is available for SONAR. Maybe less for synths (none if is 3rd party like Addictive Drums, that's XLN's job). Some users (a scant few) have noticed they don't get an email about updates to SONAR but then they come here to express their concern about something else and THEN!!!!!! they find out there is an update. THEN you know what they do? They decide when to update. Pretty nifty if you ask me. John T: not all pro engineers want to have out with us lame-o's

We should demand CW telephone each and every user when an update is available. I vote Noel calls! No robo calls either. Maybe for those that don't have a phone an employee comes to each and every door and knocks on it and waits until an answer to say "Ah sir or madam an update for Sonar has just been released". Think of the wonderful customer relations this would engender. Or they could post here that an update is released. Which do you think CW will do?

I'm not even really talking about "pro" there. Even just as a hobby, audio engineering and laziness do not go well together.

LOL, this would backfire too... within 5 minutes there would be a thread with the title "WTF... CW called me telling there was a software update??" Then the body would read "Anyone else UPSET by this???"

To add to bapu's post. You get notifications of update via email. If you have never had an email, then see this link https://www.cakewalk.com/Newsletter If you previously had an email but have stopped receiving newsletters, then their you have either marked a previous email as spam, or there has been a miscommunication between your email and theirs that makes them think you have marked an email as spam (I am certain I have not, but once again my newsletters have dried up) . In this case do not re-register it's ineffective, you must email them direct Probably through this link. http://www.cakewalk.com/Contact/RegistrationSupport If you have registered previosuly for the news letter, but never purchased, and have stopped receiving emails, then you need a direct email address, as you'll have no product code or order number. I don't know what that email adress is though.
