how do i transfer settings from the yamaha psr e313 to sonar X1 studio?
I am unfamiliar with the jargon, so please explain it clearly!!! i have connected the computer USB to the midi in and out. i don't have a clue which studio page i should be on! i have never used the software before what i want to do is send the setting for each tune to the computer, then before i play that tune i send the settings back to the yamaha. might be using a sequencer? thanks all

Hey, anon125, welcome to the forum. A good starting place for you is to post your basic system specs (see my system specs at bottom of signature for example) so we can narrow down the questions. First question is- as your keyboard has no USB port, how are you connecting your midi keyboard to a computer USB; a soundcard/mixer interface or a hardware midi/USB converter? Best, HeyDan

Look up sysex in the help file and the manual.

I think you want to move the "songs" you have recorded in your Yamaha to midi tracks in Sonar? You may have to "play' them to Sonar while recording midi, or, use Sonar as the recording device to begin with.

I don't think so. each tune we play has it's own instruments, beat etc. we wish to save each one on the computer - sonic X! studio, so we can then reload the settings to the keyboard before playing the tune. - on the keyboard - not using sonic then. we did this decades ago when cakewalk was on 5inch floppies! thanks

I use a PSR-2100. You can record midi or you can record audio... or you can disable "local control" and use it and a midi controller for softsynths. If you use it through the midi, it will playback through it's speakers when you replay. If you record it will just record an audio track like a guitar or vocal. Julien

Use this Sysx for Sonar. Page 1066. If you have MIDI files on your hardware synth you will want to transfer them to the Sonar. Sysex is is used to save user patches and other setup data for the synth. It can be sent to Sonar as a sysex dump.

John seams to be on the right path here - you want something that saves your Yamaha based songs - a librarian of some sort. Sonar can take your sysex files as a dump, but is probably not the thing you are looking for (I think.) Brian

Its a PDF and can be searched. It has over 1800 pages. Your synth manual can only tell you how to dump sysex. It can not tell you how to receive it. Everything you want to do can be done with X1. But you need to read how.

Although the forum can do a lot in teaching how to do things its not meant to be a tutorial on Sonar. I would very much like to go through how to do this but its more difficult to explain then it would be for you to read about it in the manuals. If you have a specific question I may be able to answer. At present its much to much to relate. Also you need to know how your synth can dump its data. I can't tell you that.

Sonar has soooooooooooooo many functions and settings etc. we just need one - but the right one thanks John PS and if you know the trick to stop the box popping up all the time "conexant pebble high definition smart audio" please let me know!- i have no idea what to do with it - press yes? press no? neither stop it coming back

It might do at least some of what you want using play lists. However you will need to set up each project for this sort of use. Sending sysex is not a problem for a project to set up the hardware via the play list.

how do i get a refund? thanks Call Cakewalk. Problem is that the software does what it says it will do - so you won't have much ground to stand on. Play lists play projects one after the other - and you can program each project to dump a sysex to your keyboard, but, you will have to navigate how to send and recieve sysex from your synth - which has little to do with Sonar. The Sysx View (note CW's spelling for lookup in the PDF) will let you store & send up to 256 banks of settings, but as other have said, you need to know how to dump those settings from your Yamaha first in order to save them there. See if the Yamaha manual says anything about how to do a "bulk dump". If you can't do a "bulk dump" from the Yamaha that Sysx View won't do you any good, but otherwise it can act as a librarian for saving different song settings which you can send back to your keyboard as needed. -Susan
