how to copy audio from 44K to 48K project?
Seems like a simple task/question? I need to copy all the audio from one project to another, the old project is 44K the new is 48K. If I try and copy-and-paste it won't let me because the sample rates don't match. I tried opening both projects at once to see if I could drag-and-drop but can't figure out how to get both track views floating? Is there a way to convert an entire project to a different sample rate? If I have to I can export all the audio and import but it's a lot of tracks and I'd like to know for future anyway... thanks!

Personally, if I'm bringing audio files into Sonar I first open them in Sound Forge to check that the properties match my project.
If they don't I then use the tools available to edit the properties to suit.
I thought that if the properties did not match that Sonar would do the conversion, but perhaps I am wrong about that.
The reason I do the conversion outside of Sonar is I don't get a copy of the audio files.
Cheers

Right but let's say you have a project that has 25 audio tracks and in those tracks you have 300+ separate clips. If both files were the same sample rate I would select all the audio and hit copy, paste it into the new project, easy. OK I can bounce down all the clips as 25 audio tracks but still have to export/import them all? If I take a file from the media browser and drag it into Sonar it automatically converts it to the correct sample rate, I'm looking for a solution like that...? You are correct that Sonar will do the conversion, but apparently not if you cut-and-paste.

I don't often work with mis-matched sample rates within a project but when I do and / or if I have a problem I will typically Export them like so: Select an audio track or tracks and use the File > Export Audio command to open the Export Audio dialog box. Use the Export settings to change the sample rates. After export is complete, remove the problem sample rate tracks and open the browser. Use the browser to navigate to where you exported the files and drag them in to sonar 1 at a time.

Go to window/arrange in columns (or rows) with both projects open. Close the browsers and inspectors for more screen space. This should give you two track views and let you drag/drop.

By your example of what you want to do, the difference between 48 & 44.1khz is not very great.
To increase a sample rate you have to add "nothings" to fill the space. It may serve you purpose more easily to take the 48khz track and bounce them down to 44.1khzandthen import all the files into one 44.1khz project.
It's a lot less technical and you will add very little unwanted noise.

This is what I was looking for... I couldn't figure out how to "unfloat" the track view to see both projects. But... unfortunately Sonar still won't let me drag-and-drop between the two files. Thanks. I appreciate the help from the rest of you but I was hoping to find a way that doesn't involve exporting and importing the tracks individually. Maybe it's not possible...?

You can't unfloat the track view but using the previous instructions you should have two track views, one above the other showing tracks from each project. Drag and drop should work but if it doesn't, close Sonar, right click the Sonar icon and select Run as Administrator. This is sometimes necessary to be able to drag and drop.

Sounds like some confusion between bit depth and sample rate. To increase bit depth from a lower to higher size, you add zero bits to the least significant end. To decrease bit depth you throw away/truncate the data at the least significant end. But re-sampling requires that you recalculate new values for all the samples of the waveform that is represented by the original sampling. You cannot even just interpolate new values between the existing values if you want an accurate representation of the new waveform. And if you remove intervening samples altogether, it creates the same problem as if you get dropouts when rendering, in the extreme case clicks and pops.

I don't think you're going to get direct drag and drop between projects of different sample rates to happen by any method. SONAR only does sample rate conversion by File > Import or by dragging an actual audio file in from the file system (or via Media Browser). Unfortunately that won't preserve any non-destructive clip edits or take lane/loop structure stored in the source project, and you'll have to take care about timing if the clips don't all start at time zero. Once upon a time, I proposed re-sampling files in the audio folder using a 3rd-party converter which causes SONAR to change sample rates automatically based on the rate of existing audio it finds in the folder. But it turns out that projects store clip length in samples so the audio ends up getting truncated when going from a lower rate to a higher rate and can't be recovered by slip-editing or any other trickery. Going the other direction pads clips with silence which isn't as big a problem. Until the Bakers implement a project conversion feature, there's really no easy way to do this.

Hi, This evening I discovered a simply way to change a project's sample rate. I had a old SONAR project with 44.1k audio files and needed to change them to 48k in order for the project to even playback at my audio interface's 48k sample rate. To change the sample rate you'll need an audio editing program like Wavelab, Sound Forge, or similar. I used Wavelab 6 and its Batch Process. It can also be easily accomplished by processing each audio file individually. • In your SONAR project folder create a new file folder. No need to rename it yet. • Launch your audio editing program and open the Batch Processing utility. • Select all (44.1k) audio files from your project's 'Audio' folder and import them into the Batch Processor as the 'input' source. • Select the new file folder you created as the location for the Batch Processed files to be save at the 48k sampling rate. • If not using the Batch Processor, open the audio files in the audio editor and save them at 48k in the new folder. • When complete, go to your SONAR project folder. • Rename the project's 'Audio' folder to whatever name you like. • Rename the new file folder containing the 48k files to 'Audio'. • When you reopen your SONAR project it will be at the new sampling rate. • Since the file names are exactly the same in the new folder, SONAR will recognize them and will maintain their original position in the Track View. • A project's sample rate is dictated by the sample rate of the audio files that are in the 'Audio' folder. I hope this help. Good luck! JON

Jon that`s the way to do it but first you have to make all tracks continiuas and add abit of silence to the end. No bits and peaces on the tracks, otherwise you lose some sound from the end of each clip. peace

Hi, Thanks. I'll update my instructions to tell those to bounce the track(s) first. I listened to your music on Soundcloud. Excellent work musically and with your production. Cheers, JON

You can also convert the files OUTSIDE of SONAR with any software that converts 44 to 48kHz. When you open the project SONAR thinks that this is a 48kHz project. Just go into the audiofolder and batch-convert all audiofiles. (Make a backup !!!)

I suck at this. I usually export it as the right bit depth and import it. There is no fool proof useful way in Sonar IMHO. I've tried a bunch of tricks that should work, but they often don't work as you would think they would.
