how to randomize automation ?
I was watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyHKZtCbbks regarding vocal doubling without actually re-singing the lead vocal, and wondered if there was a way to do this in Sonar. Basically, create a copy of the vocal, slide it backward by a few milliseconds, then automate a delay ... randomly ... so that sometimes the copy is a little ahead of the original vocal and sometimes a little behind. I don't think that the VX-64 Vocal Strip doubler does this automatically, but maybe it does. Who knows.......

There is a random line draw type which can be used to create automation envelops.

You can also record random stuff using the analyzer plugin if I remember correctly.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

OK, sort of. I have a bunch of MIDI notes. I want to randomize the velocities within an upper and lower boundary. How do I do that? Or, maybe, can I do that?

I describe a vocal randomizing/ADT technique using Melodyne Essential in the Cakewalk blog that works really well.

EXCEPT that velocity plugin is not available for the MIDI data assigned to a SoftSynth.

Definitely doable in CAL using the random function.

The midi velocity plug-in is available in X3. Are you using a simple-instrument track or split midi/audio?

I am using Rapture, driving that with MIDI. The CAL program "VARYVEL.CAL" actually works. Thanks Scook. I entered the LOW velocity limit and the HIGH velocity limit, and there ya go!! Works. The Midi Velocity Plugin will not work with a soft synth ... I even tried inserting a MIDI track, sticking the plugin in that, and try to drag it into the Softsynth track. Nope.

Sure it does. I use it on soft synths all the time.

(I'm not at my workstation right-now so I may have the names wrong) If using split midi/audio tracks just right click the fx-bin of the midi track and choose velocity from midi-fx menu. If using a simple instrument track then select the track, open inspector, click the midi tab so you're using the midi part of it, right click in the fx-bin and select it from midi-fx. Now whether it'll do what you want it to is a different story.

Well I'll be a monkey's offspring, which, of course, we all are. I highlight the midi sequence, open the clip-fx-bin, add the velocity plugin. Sweet.
