hold down your alt key, then hit 2, 4 and 8. release alt.

edit: on the number pad... the regular number keys won't do it.

OIC! I don't have a number pad on this laptop. I'll try it on my PC when I power it up again.

IF I remember. Thanks though! :-)

you probably have a 'Fn' key (function) that you need to hold down and maybe some blue numbers on the letter keys? that will do the same thing. at least if it's a dell... but most laptops have that i think.

I wish we still had the 'degree' sign--like old typewriters had...

I learned to type on an old typewriter :-) I wanted to quick, my teacher wanted me to quit (who could blame her? I'm a disruptive influence, always have been...) Everyone but my mother... She said YOU WILL LEARN TO TYPE!! (She was right, mama is always right).

If it weren't for typing class and Algebra I, I could have skipped high school altogether and been better off for it.

I just happened across a wonderful bit of knowledge. I often wondered how to make my computer do the copyright symbol... you know..

© that thing...

well here's the secret... on a PC.

press control & Alt at the same time then while holding them press C

release all keys then press and hold ALT while entering 0169 on the numeric keypad
release Alt and the symbol appears.

© so cool, and so professional looking on your stuff.

©......Ah! Ok, I'm an idiot! LOL

I didn't catch that you specifically said "numeric keypad" and I was trying to do this with the numbers across the top.

Thanks!

Geese....can't believe how much I'm learning around here! LOL

you can even upload a jpeg to it and it'll do a conversion.

Hi guys

Not quite on topic but this bit of free software allows you to scan a text document and then convert the scanned text into real text you can then paste into Word etc.

Ah... then you'd appreciate one of our favorite pranks from the college years - on DOS machines: put a batch file in the bootup that would set the screen color attribute to black-on-black, and then watch your victim go nuts trying to figure out what was broken.

Now THAT'S twisted...

Hadn't thought about that one in years... I'll have to do some penance now, I guess...

'things'

Wow--you could READ that? Cool!

The fun part is that I've used the American phonetic alphabet for about 30 years now. And this year, for the first time, I have to learn and teach the International phonetic alphabet. (But I guess if you haven't studied it this doesn't really matter anyway.) And for a fun couple of weeks, I get to teach both every day! This dog is getting to old for this!

Congrats! I'm impressed!

It's quite amazing the tools that are available for teaching and how kids (like myself I guess) manage to pick up things they haven't seen before because it is presented in a different way, whereas many can and do get stuck going down the same route as the mainstream and you have these amazing things available to help with all sorts of speech and reading difficulties.

Who works out all this stuff? It really opens doors for some people now that IS clever.

I guess the 'th' in 'Things' is a harder 'th' than the one in 'the' hence the different character there which is where I got stumped.

The 'th' question is called the difference between voiced and voiceless sounds.
