As a first step I suggest you spend some time exploring and making the most of the embedded Sonar tools which are pretty formidable in my view.

Yes, I do: 1. You can get a long way with V-Vocal if you put the time in to learn to drive it well. 2. The Vocal Strip is very good - try starting with some of the pre-sets and working from there. 3. I still use the Vintage Channel on some vocals. Again, try starting with some of the pre-sets such as 'soft vocal with air' and trying out some variations. 4. And there's the ProChannel tools, Sonitus tools etc. I guess this assumes you know what you want to do with the vocals. If you're a little unsure it might be worth reading up, something like Paul White's Producer Manual. I keep books like this around to refer to from time to time. Best wishes Toby

You do not explain in what way they do not work well together. Are you dissatisfied with Nectar's capabilities? Or it's integration with Sonar? What are your aims/expectations of a "vocal software"?

I have used Nectar in SONAR since Nectar was released. Apart from the manual mode not working in 64 bit SONAR. (a known issue) it works very well. However to make the most use of it (use manual mide)I use it in other hosts. If you are new to this whole thing perhaps you could learn the tools within SONAR which while not perfect are certainly upto the task. Unfortunately these tools all require quite some learning to use and that's going to take time and effort. There are many folks that get very good results using only the tools within SONAR. When it comes to pitch correction of vocals the biggest problems arise when folks expect to fix up a poor vocal performance rather than just an odd bum note or two. I find it's best to work at getting a good recording rather than fixing it in the mix.

I would save your $$ and work on your own skills. I'm not saying anything about your abilities, just that there is no 'magic' plug-in. You very well may be a damn talented singer and just want to play with a few toys. And if that's the case then please just ignore this post. But if not just remember. An ok singer is always going to sound ok no matter what processor it's run through. But a truly great singer with good techniques will sound great with any, all or no processing at all. Mike

Nectar doesn't actually *do* anything special. It just gathers together a bunch of standard tools in one interface, and presents them in a way that's fairly friendly towards working with vocals. Nothing wrong with that, but as you become more familiar with mixing vocals, you'll start to wonder what the point of it really is.

Izotope needs to do 2 things with Nectar: 1. Get it working with X1 2. Lower the price to match Ozone and Alloy's pricing If they don't, people will just look to alternatives when it comes to vocal effects.

Nectar does seem to bundle a whole gaggle of useful tools, but like said above it's nothing you don't already have built in to SONAR. The VX-64 Vocal Strip is actually quite amazing. I find the compressor to lack enough controls for major usage but the doubler is great and the saturation on the EQs are also great. I'd make a FXChain with your fave tools with knobs mapped, and couple it with a few Pro-Channel tools of choice. Save it all as a track template and bring it up in two clicks whenever you want!

I have Nectar and I think it's a cool plug-in, but I use it mostly with hosts other than Sonar. I like to keep projects as self-contained as possible and has been pointed out, Sonar's current tools can do very similar effects overall.

Izotope and Cakewalk could become a strong team if they could work together making sure that their software is compatible with each other ... i'd like to see that happen one day

I picked up Nectar before I got X1, if I remember correctly. It didn't work to well in Sonar 7 or X1 when I first got it. There was a patch that came out that fixed it all for me. It worked well on my old P4 box and still works great on my new I5 box. I only find it useful as a channel strip though. That correction feature is way outdated IMO. I'm thinking possibly the demo can be updated with the latest patch and possibly some of the other folks that have it may just need to update? Nectar and X1 works great together here
