i cannot get my m-audio midi keyboard to work in sonar le.

hi folks, connor here, brand spanking new to the forum, with a frustrating problem.

I got an m-audio keystation 88es midi keyboard for christmas over 2 years ago, and havent been able to use it once. I have never used midi before. i have the driver installed (although, when i go to options/midi devices, the only input is keystation 88es, and the outputs are keystation 88es at the top, and microsoft midi mapper beneath).

when i click record on a midi track, and play the keys, i can see that the software is recording, but there is no sound, either while playing, or during playback.

To be honest, I blamed my last computer for it not working initially, and only recently purchased a dell inspiron (o/s vista), to find that the issue is still ongoing.

i am desperate to get this working, as to venture down the rabbit hole that is ''midi.''
your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,
connor

The track has to be assigned to something that can produce sound, either a real synth or a softsynth. The Keystations is just a controller. The MIDI Mapper is not a valid MIDI device so you can't use that. What you need to do is add a softsynth (TTS-1 is a good one to start with) to the synthrack (Insert-Softsynth), then assign the output of a MIDI track to the TTS-1. Now when you plan the keyboard, you should hear sound from the TTS-1 via your soundcard.

But Dave, IIRC  Sonar LE includes no GM soft synths unless the OP has bought the Plus Pack. That's the frustrating, stupid thing we've been complaining about for years. It's a real bug .

X1 LE does include CW Sound Center.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
