i want to record an audio track.... HELP MEEEE

without it automatically "converting midi to audio".

i use MC 2 and 5 and i've opened the same song on both... it's basically like 5 midi tracks with a vocal track... i go to record some bass but the audio track starts recording everything else as if i'm converting everything to audio.

what the hell.
please help!

It sounds like you may have your sound card settings set to What You Hear or Stereo Mix, which records everything you hear all at once.
What is your sound card or audio interface?
What is the input set to? What are the sound card or audio interface settings regarding input?

i'm using windows 7 64 bit and i have the realtek hd audio manager... dunno if that helps... um
i put the audio track input to MME devices > left stereo mix. arm the track and press record, i'm guessing that some settings were left behind from last time i converted midi... it's been awhile since i've used the program though and it seems like i keep having to re-learn this stuff every time i work on a project.

does any of that info help? thanks for your help btw.

Don't use Stereo Mix.
What other options are available?

I seem to remember you from some time in the past..... you do tend to forget the basics if you stay away for too long.

So what is the input for the new audio track set to?

in track input, MME devices > stereo stereo mix, left stereo mix and right stereo mix are available. i set it to left stereo mix because i read that in a cakewalk tutorial one time and it's the input that makes it stereo surprisingly.

i'm using CW 5 now officially for this song. in the general tab of audio options i have a "driver mode" option and on it's pull-down list there are: WDM/KS, WASAPI, ASIO and MME (32 bit).

MME has always worked for me; i learned to do that when i learned to always put it on left stereo mix from the CW guide.

I don't think you can tune the actual MIDI (???), because it's just control data which follows the standard, but you can tune the synth that plays the data. In piano roll you can transpose notes at will.
Many soft synths have the possibility to fine tune, but with varying step-sizes.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Yes you can tune midi.....HOWEVER,  it's generally done from the GUI of the synth. Some synths allow this and others do not. You have to look around in the synth's GUI to find the tuning function.

Some will allow you to tune from 440 to say 439 whereas others will only allow a complete half step change.

Glad you solved the other issue.... yeah MME is the usual driver for the factory realtec cards.
