i7 920 vs Q9650 for SONAR 8/Garritan

Hi to all. I'm a new poster thinking about buying (no time to build) something with a little more muscle than my 5-year old laptop (3ghz pentium 1.5 gig ram)

I'm wondering if the lowest of the i7's (920) with DDR3 ram will be worth it over the Q9650 with DDR2 ram.

I will mostly be running Sonar with many tracks (30-40) of GPO and JABB.

ALso wondering if Vista Ultimate is worth it over Vista Premium. What functionality might I lose going to 64-bit right now (I've read mention of rewire not being there?? ))

All advice (and any correction of misconception) appreciated

Yes to the i7, no to Ultimate and 64-bit is a non-issue if you install the 32-bit version in the x64 OS.

Either CPU will do a good job running typical projects with GPO JABB.
If you want to work at ultra low latency settings (ASIO buffer size of 64-samples or smaller), then the i7 would be the best choice.

If you go with a 64Bit OS, I'd use Vista x64 Business. You don't need Tivo type features/etc on a DAW.
Most 32Bit apps run fine in Vista x64.
