i7 processor appears to be released

Someone at overclock.net claims to have the new i7 processor. The claim looks legit and he/she gave the name of the store shipping as well. Here's the link - http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/406091-i7-out-wild.html

This may be good news for many people even if they don't plan on buying one because the price of the older processors should drop now. I'm looking to buy a new computer in the near future and am gonna see if some prices get dropped first.

I don't know how big of an improvement the i7's will be over the Core 2 quads for music production, that's the million dollar question for me. I don't expect a gigantic leap forward but hopefully something nice is there.

P.S. It appears that some stores where shipping before the scheduled release date of i7, this i think is the case with your store and the previouse case i mentioned.

Let's wait for the dust to settle.

I see now you need an expensive motherboard with an X58 chipset and DDR3 memory. Prices for a system based on an i7 would be rather high right now.

Leaps and bounds, but it depends on your situation. If your current system meets your needs, then a faster system is not going to help. If you get the slowest version of the i7 CPU, then the performance increase won't be as dramatic. Predicted performance of the i7 is equivalent to a Skulltrail system, clock for clock. So, it's no contest with Core 2 quads in terms of raw power. The design of the entire system is different, not just the CPU. There is no FSB, the memory controller is on the CPU, there are 3 channels to memory and so on.

October 31st is very early, even now it appears that very few are on the market. I myself have been trying to figure out how much better is the i7 920 to the Q9550 ln several areas. Both seem at good prices plus the prices of the older may drop. Thanks for the info!

Has any musicians/engineers here purchased any of the i7's yet? If so i would like your opinions. I see quite a few have been on ebay lately, but there seems to be only one motherboard released for the i7's in USA atm.
