iMac mouse audible interference.
Hi Just set up Sonar X1 Producer on my brand new iMac using Bootcamp. All working beautifully except for some interference and scratchy noises coming from my monitors. Seems to have something to do, at least in part, with the mouse. When I click it or move it around or even just slide my finger over it there is a scratchy sort of noise. But the buzzing noise is there even when I am not touching the mouse. I am using a VS-100 interface. Any ideas anyone??? Thanks Mick

HI there Mick I am not sure if the interferences are actually coming from your mouse, or boot camps translation of the mouse. To run any windows product on Mac you can use bootcamp, VMware or Parallels. I personally would not use any. not for X1 anyway. I dont know how technical you are but in case you are not, bootcamp acts as a "layer" or translator between the windows software and the mac architecture. when Mac went to Intel a couple of years ago they used a software layer called Rosetta. this helped older software programmed before the intel switch to be able to work with intel. In most cases it worked well, but any program that was memory, through put and CPU intensive really suffered. X1 is going to work the memory, CPU very hard, and because it records directly to the hard drive, putting a layer in between it is going to have after effects. I suspect that your mouse problem could be related to that. Its a lot like eating your favourite meal through a sock. its possible but not recommended. Lol, perhaps the example is extreme, but I am sure you get my point. This type of layer software is great for Office programs etc but for graphics and DAW software written for Windows its not recommended. I have never tried to run X1 on my mac because of this. If your mouse is wireless, this could cause also cause interference. Having said all of this I dont know if you are running a home studio or running a business. if its the latter I would seriously consider getting a good Quad core i7 windows machine your results are going to be much better, but if you are a home user looking to do 4 tracks etc you would probably get away with it, but you will suffer with alot of frustration. my 2 cents worth anyway.

Hi I have called the tech guys at Apple and they suggested trying Garage Band and seeing if I still get the same problem. When I try to use Garage Band the same thing happens. This might suggest a grounding problem for the speakers as the results are exactly the same as what I get in Sonar X1. Any further input much appreciated. At the end of the day this noise is interference and cant really be heard during playback and shouldn't be on anything I burn to CD I wouldn't think. It's just a nuisance and I would love to get rid of it. My speakers are Behringer Truth B2031A if that helps. Thanks for your help. Mick

Have you tried using a ground lift on you computer and/or monitor power cords? I generally had to use one with my laptop but not my desktop.

The problem is your mouse. I am assuming it is a wireless. Correct? I noticed a noise when I would move the mouse on my iMac after I bought it. (I use Ableton Live on the Mac). It is faint but it is there. And it happens no matter what program you are running. I think it is the bluetooth interface. Anyway, I am used to it know and it doesn't interfere with my work in Ableton. Just don't jiggle your mouse around when doing mixdowns!

I disabled all the Bluetooth and wireless on my iMac and the noise is still there. I disabled the wireless mouse and used a wired mouse and that didn't help. Theres even a buzzing noise when the iMac is off and I just have the VS-100 turned on. So I will contact the guys who sold me the monitors and see what they say. Thanks Mick

I'm assuming you're in the US. If not, then ignore. You can buy a ground lift at any hardware store. At the point where you plug into the wall, you would plug those three prongs into the female part of the ground lift. Then the male part of the ground lift, which is two prongs, plugs into the wall. The middle, usually round prong, is "lifted".
