iZotope Ozone 6 and it's "Mojo"

Ok i had to try it..., so many talk about Ozone 6, Now what is so special....... about it !
Well i put it om my master and started with the EQ, well it did what is was supposed to do nothing better
or worse compared to other EQ's i know, then the Compressor nothing new compared to other compressor's.
then the limiter at the final, well it got loud and that's good, and it is very transparent
and clean to my ears.

Would i buy Ozone 6, just for the :
EQ, compressor and limiter .. Answer is NO !
i can get the same or better sound with other plugins.

So what is all the fuzz......., about using it for mastering... well nothing of the above.. so what then ?

The " magic / strength " is in the " Exiter and the Imager.

the Exiter really bring the sound to another dimension, all becomes clear and get definition
and sounds come's to life and start moving for the enjoyment of the ears.... i was in luv
at once , true ear-candy so that was the " magic " behind ozone 6, at this first quick test.

it was further enhanced by the Imager.

the GUI is excellent, and i have overall a nice workflow with it.

Is it better to use :
I can get " almost " the same result with an EQ, compressor and limiter on my Master..
but it is the Exiter, that makes Ozone stand out, and that it has a great GUI
and it's easy to work with, an all in one tool.

Will i buy it ?, well if i can get a similar Exiter, to add to my master with the other plugins, then NO....

But i may consider it , just for the ( Exiter ) , where it's mojo and the soul live's.
now that was my 15 minute's of Ozone 6 test..., first impression is quite often the right one... i guess ;-)

my question now is:
is there an Exiter i can buy, that sound's as awesome like the Ozone one do ?
or am i " forced " ( by G.A.S ), to buy Ozone 6, just because of it..

    But is it any better than Ozone 5, which has the same features? iZotope wants $299 for me to upgrade. Unless there are some significantly better features in Ozone 6, I see no reason to upgrade.

    It's less bloated. Some people can't handle that. It has an excellent standalone mode. It is more stylish- some people can't handle that either. They have tried to finesse it into a mastering application. Many people do not understand.

    I think it has a ten day demo if you are curious- you'd learn a lot more that way than reading lightweight internet opinions such as my own.

    Ozone 6 Demo ,  ( always try before buy ), was that an " Air " slogan.... !

    Anyone can download the full version of a current iZotope product. If you haven't purchased the product yet
    the software will operate in a free 10-day Trial mode after you install. If you have purchased the product
    simply authorize the software with a valid Serial Number.

    Is it better than Ozone 5 ? only you can answer that. I have Ozone 5 Advanced and Ozone 6 Advanced, I like them both, I like the standalone aspect of 6, I guess the GUI is better, although I have no problem with 5's, 6 is more CPU intensive. I probably use 5 more than 6, but 6 still has its time. Give it a demo run, see what you think, if you take the plunge you'll still have 5 as well.

    Did an demo download, of Waves Aphex Vintage Aural Exiter.

    But woooo...... that could not compare in any way
    like the Exiter in Ozone 6, NOT at all.

    The Aphex Aural exiter was to me more like a filter, Lo Pass with a high treble boost "content"
    ( guess you can get the same effect with a Tilt and shift EQ, + a stereo widener )
    with a small wideness effect, but could not bring background sound forward
    or up front more detailed, like the one in Ozone 6. ( Wow that is good.. )

    So if anyone has an Suggestion to an exiter link, it so i can demo it.

    But i personally do not think , there's not anyone that can compare as i know of
    at least in the software world ! ( do prove me wrong ;-) .

    For now it seems that the Ozone guy's can get another customer
    just because of the Exiter in Ozone 6.

    Sadly, no.

    At least, not any that I've tried. And I've been looking for years. The closest I've found so far is FabFilter Saturn, but even that one's not in the same league with Ozone's exciter.

    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Ok thanks, seems like i can save me the time
    to look for another Exiter then.
    Hopefully i'll get the Ozone 6 later on
    i probably gonna use the exiter only
    and my other plugins in the master

    my Master BUSS, will probably look like this :

    * Bus compressor, of some kind " still looking "
    want a compressor with the ( compression character / style " soft and silky fat )
    like the PSP OldtimerME, and the Softube Fet Compressor
    but with the enhanced detail like the waves API 2500.

    * SlickHDR ( by :variety of sound ) an excellent plugin to open the sound up and bring some life in
    * AirEQ, by Eosis and fabrice gabriel
    * iZotope Osone 6 ( with Exiter engaged only )
    * Waves L3 Multimaximizer

    My standard alternate chain, when I want to go Ozone-less, is
    Pro-Q -> MDynamicEQ -> Saturn -> Pro-L

    I have not found a suitable substitute for Ozone's imager, either. I suspect Meldaproduction's MStereoSpread, though fundamentally different, might do the job. But such plugins are, IMO, a crutch that one is better off without anyway.

    i work as mastering engineer in the studio i use hardware for sure,

    at home i use saturation EQ:

    the price is too low, yet it sounded petter than my UAD Pultec eq. the saturation and high frequencies are fun to play with in this plugin, they have free version just try it and you will know. i used it with pensado and other legendary mixing and mastering engineer and all of them liked it.

    and as a saturation i prefer softube one knob:

     and soundTOY Decapitator:

    also izotope alloy 2 exciter, Toneboosters stuff are perfect.

    amm as a compressor i prefer UAD Plugins like: Fairchild and shadowhills
    then plugin alliance elysia - alpha compressors.

    tape machine ( plugins ): Slate digital - UAD ampex and studer 800, wave ampex - toneboosters

    harmonics - slate digital stuff are great.

    imager i use DrMS4:

    to add excitement in the super end in my track and to make my mid freq smoother: kush audio clariphonic.

    Soundblend, i am happy to tell you that the exciter you are looking for is at Slate Digital, AND IT'S FREE! It's called "Revival". This is new and only recently released, it's in the "product" page for download. It adds the real Mcoy mojo because you know Steven Slate only makes the best. Why he gives it away for no cost i don't know, but God bless the man.

    I have Ozone 6 and i must say that i think it's the best version they've ever made, ****s all over version 5. I too like the Saturation section in Ozone 6, but every section sounds great, however, the "Revival" plugin was also designed to give you the mojo, the best of realworld analog vibe which can also be adjusted for the high and low frequencies. I think you will be amazed at what this can do, exactly what you're looking for. So now, all you need is a free quality stereo-spreader and you'll be sorted, happy hunting, happy music making.

    PS: IMO this "Revival" plugin performs much better than the Softube Saturation plugin.

    Well thank you i Got Revival from slate digital, but it can not compare to
    "Ozone 6 Exiter"  in any way but thanks for info.

    Actually in software world,  i have not come across anybody that is best.....
    Not waves , not slate digital, not nomad factory, not soft-Tube
    or anyone else i have tested products of.....
    No one is able to reproduce hardware sound in the digital domain.

    " software, it's a lie, but some is a better lie, than others..." all they want is OUR money. ( more or less.. )

    Hardware....
    look  at this... and i totally agree what he say.

    All of the vendors of different producers of plugins.... they all have
    something that is negative to the :

    * frequency range
    * stereo image
    * vibe / tone
    * GUI
    * functionality

    and more......

    There's many things to consider when listening and trying to decide what plugin
    that may be "good enough" to use inside the DAW.

    It is an expensive way, to buy, then resell plugins cause it was not good enough
    14 day's Trial may not be enough to know a plugin, inside out....
    then if i / we decide to buy and after think " i don't like it anymore "
    i did a wrong decision when i buy'd it.

    then we sell it again and loose a lot of our money, it's a constant " hunt " !
    G.A.S all over....

    if we would manage with money to buy
    3 great compressors and 3 EQ's, then settle with it, that would be awesome.
    but no....

    I find more or less something with any vendor the problem is to pick what is to my ears
    usable enough to buy and own and use, that is the hard part.

    We / i can come a long way with plugins , but not quite to the goal without
    great hardware for the final Glory.....

    Shall i be honest , i really start to get very tired of this " hunt "
    i think the problem is worst , for those with low income
    cause they cannot afford great equipment, and then settle with it.

    We need to buy this, then buy that, and maybe that is better , who knows... !
    all that money for nothing

    Nicely said, i feel exactly the same way, everything you said was the truth and my same sentiment; only one thing i don't agree about. Slate Digital had multiple top-tier mastering engineers and mixing engineers do blind listening tests for his plugins like the VCC, 'all' of these audio pros could not perceive the difference! His plugins are the only ones IMO that actually emulate hardware 99%.
    I own Slates's new VMR (Virtual Mix Rack) plugins, and from what i can tell they are the real-deal, unbelievably good. Waves and UAD do not equal these, you are right about those other emulations, they are not exactly the same as the real-world counterpart, but i do believe Steven Slate has achieved this. For example, view this vid at Youtube... "Slate Digital Making Of: Virtual Tape Machines VTM". It shows the unreserved endorsement of Howie Weinberg the famed mastering engineer, and i don't think any plugin maker has achieved such an endorsement... Howie Weinberg has replaced his 'real' mastering tapedeck for Slate's VTM, so you gotta admit, that's saying something for sure...

    I'm like you, tired of hunting, sick of looking, years and years of all the **** and the hype and the claims and the same old buzzwords etc etc, they just want our money, but after using Slate's plugins i happily paid for them, worth every penny, and much cheaper than Waves and UAD and Softube etc.

    Slate gave us cheap prices and the real deal, what more could you want? I'm serious, if you haven't tried them i can tell you they are the real thing, so do yourself a favour, come over to the dark side LOL.

    All jokes aside, i'm like you, i ain't got money to waste on **** and wannabe garbage and tryhards, i need the real deal. I am content in my heart now, truly, believing/knowing i've got the real thing now. Audio bliss, the results are fantastic. When i pull-up a Slate compressor for example, i know it's giving me realworld reality, truly my friend, you will not be sorry. And actually, to add weight to my argument, if you read the sound-on-sound review of the "UAD Studer® A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder Plug-In", you will see (just like you said) that it is now a proper match of Tape, variables in the result were not like the real-world counterpart, it was just basically another plugin having a go but not giving the true result, but, if you read the sound-on-sound review of Slate's VTM you will see the difference. Paul White (and we know that he knows his stuff) toward the business end of his review says this... "Inevitably, questions will be asked as to how VTM compares with the Universal Audio and Waves offerings, as these are currently the main players in the software tape emulation market. There isn't a simple answer though, as all three model different tape machines set up by different engineers. I think that when it comes to dogged persistence in modelling the true detail of a tape machine, Slate probably get as close to the real thing as is practical."

    Then he goes on to say... "I could make this section really short by saying that, to my ears, Slate's VTM sounds just like tape."

    And, to endorse his own observations, Paul White says in relation to the Slate VTM... "The fact that you feel a profound sense of disappointment when you bypass the Slate VTM plug-in, says it all really!"
    And he goes on to say... "I've used the "UAD Studer A800" plug-in on several mixes and have been really happy with the results, but to my ears VTM sounds a little more realistic — very musical, but also less obvious. It adds just a hint of weight, density and smoothness to the sound without veering off into excess. There are some convincing videos on the Slate web site comparing how waveforms are distorted when passing through a real tape machine and then through the VTM plug-in, as against their (unnamed) competitors."
    And again he says... "In some cases, a less faithful emulation may produce an appropriate musical result, but if accurate tape emulation is what you're after, I think you'd be hard pushed to get closer than VTM."

    And if you're still not convinced, he goes on to say at the end of his review... "Overall, I really love this plug-in and can't really find anything negative to say about it, other than that some users may be surprised at just how low-key the effect of a real tape recorder can be. On the other hand, if you're going to insert multiple instances in a mix, you don't want the effect to be overblown, as it is cumulative. For me, VTM supplies the essential magic of analogue tape in a manageable and utterly convincing manner, without the cost of maintaining a tape machine, buying tape, spending time aligning the thing and then having the tape run out just before the end of the only perfect take of the day! Having used it, I'd find it very hard to go back to mixing without it."

    So there you go; but i can tell you as an owner of all Slate's plugins, the same level of expertise has gone into every one of his plugins, and i can definitely hear the result, 'real world' bliss! Do i need to say more? Save your money, save yourself the cost of those other overpriced amateur plugins, and go get the real thing dude, Slate has handed us heaven on a stick.
