yes...you need a soundcard.. a thing you plug in to your usb port that has inputs in it..whats happening to you now is called latency..you might want to do a google search on it..trust me..its not the software.its your computer...i take it you computer is store bought? you need a better driver..which comes with soundcards..unless of course you already have one..but i wouldnt know because you havent given enough details on your system, soundcard or even what your plugging in to trigger the soft synths.

Right. An audio interface designed for recording will almost always solve this problem. Or not using soft synths while recording I never use soft synths while recording, choosing to use the sounds my keyboard makes instead. If I decide later to audition other sounds to see if I can find a better patch than my keyboard provides, I'll insert and try out some soft synths.

Charlie is correct. Look up a user here in the MC forums called Beagle. he has a web site with some good info on sound cards to aid you in choosing one that is right for you. You will need a USB based interface that has MIDI and audio in the same unit. prices vary depending on the mfg and the features, but between $100 to $250 is a good price to pay for a decent interface that will let you hear the sound when you hit the pad....or key.... Actually all the interfaces have some latency in them (it's just the nature of the beast) but when it's 10ms or less, you can not hear it, so we say there is no latency in the sound. Any good interface will get you under 10ms easily.

What are your system specs? I have had limited success using the WASAPI driver mode in MC5 on a Vista laptop. It works, and gives ultra low latency, but has been a little unstable. Ultimately, a dedicated interface, such as the guys have suggested is the way to go.

tooMUCHinformation is ther nyway i cud get really low latency without paying $100 for a piece of hardware there is one other way but you really need to tell us what kind of system your running and what devise your using to record..its a little difficult when i dont know what you have..good luck

generally speaking.... NO! The hardware is where the latency exists, it's not caused by the software. Answer the questions you are being asked because if we know the system specs perhaps there is a work-around that will get you going until you can afford the hardware. This is a hobby, and like so many hobbies, you get out of it what you put into it. And that includes the hardware and other software that will make this an enjoyable hobby.

tooMUCHinformation, you're giving us tooLITTLEinformation. Could you please include in each post what operating system you're using, what sound card or audio interface you're using and the amount of RAM your computer has, and which version of MC you use? Going into your forum profile and putting that info in your signature will always emsure that we see that info and won't have to ask all the time. "is ther nyway i cud get really low latency without paying $100 for a piece of hardware" (sic) Use WASAPI driver mode if you have it. If not, download and install ASIO4All. Or use the sounds of your MIDI keyboard instead of soft synths, if you have a MIDI keyboard that makes it's own sounds. Have you adjusted the Latency slider to the 'Fast' side under Options>Audio' in MC?
