import compressed audio

Hello
Does anyone have problem with importing mp3 files into Sonar?
I get a few different problems, it is not really easy to ficure out why they appear (and are different).
1) Sometimes I get mono on a stereo track
2) I often get very bad sound quality (really broken audio), this is happens very often - but not always... (and yes it is the same samplerate).

The workaround is to transcode the audio to wave in another program and importing the wave file.
Anyone else?

Why would an MP3 be imported into Sonar except for perhaps a reference file?--in which case, the sound quality doesn't matter.  If you're trying to import some actual audio that will be part of your project, you need higher resolution source material.

Importing mp3 files here without the issues you report. Is it a particular type of mp3 file that you get this with (VBR, hi or low bitrate, very long or short files)? Perhaps there might be a clue there.

    Here is an example:

    t                           : MPEG Audio
    File size                        : 4.74 MiB
    Duration                         : 3mn 26s
Overall bit rate                 : 192 Kbps

    Audio
    Format                           : MPEG Audio
    Format version                   : Version 1
    Format profile                   : Layer 3
    Mode                             : Joint stereo
    Mode extension                   : MS Stereo
    Duration                         : 3mn 27s
    Bit rate mode                    : Constant
    Bit rate                         : 192 Kbps
    Channel(s)                       : 2 channels
    Sampling rate                    : 44.1 KHz
    Stream size                      : 4.73 MiB (100%)

I get the troublesome files most often from one source and it is backing tracks which I am supposed to record additional tracks to, so the soundquality is not the most important issue it just has to be OK to play along with (and it is not if, I import it directly). It does not matter whether I drag n drop or use import.

It is very strange and not entirely consistant.
