importing from 8.5 to x1

i'm not sure if this question has been mulled around already, but i'm not finding it so any advise you fine people can give me will be appreciated. i am running 8.5 on my laptop and do most of my writing that way. What i would like to do is import projects to my destop running x1. is this an easy thing to do? so just to recap, i plan to lay down most tracks on laptop using 8.5 and plan to do mix down on desktop running x1.
thanks

If you want my advice, then I'd say simply DON'T DO IT!

I can run X1 flawlessly on new projects, haven't had a crash for months.

But as soon as I open up an 8.5 project in X1 then it's simply a question of when.

And it's not just me - many users have experienced the same thing.

You'd be better off installing X1 on your laptop.

Just open them up... but remember to do a "save as" real quickly because projects saved in X1 will be funky in 8.5 if you use the new X1 features.

You can move forward easily but backwards can become a problem.

I can confirm what Bristol_Jonesey says (but not in his accent). Anything I've imported that uses a soft synth, especially Kontakt, will lock up on me unpredictably. As Kontakt is my mainstay, I've given up trying to import. Let's see what's in Xc that may sort this.

I think for what Jeff wants to do he'll be OK.
Just don't use the EQ in 8.5 as that will complicate things as far as ProC is concerned.
Freeze any non-cake soft synths, just in case.

"Full" projects is what had my head spinning at first, that just made the new layout even more confusing!

I do all my tracking of acoustical instruments on 8.5 and run very minimal effects at this stage.  I am set up to track in a different room that where I mix, so that I can leave all of my amps, mic's, etc set up and ready to record.  I have not had any problems going from 8.5 to X1.  The only time that I had some issues was early on with the first release; mostly because I had started adding Eq in 8.5 and then switched to PC when I went to X1.  Now, I just wait to do all my mixing and effects in X! and concentrate on getting really good tracks when first tracking.
