importing instrument definition

Are there any tool that can import instrument patch/program into cakewalk's instrument definition. I know you can painfully create or download the ins files for popular hardware synth but these are static. It doesn't address the synth's custom patch or patch in softsynth/sampler.
I think that it would be great if you can run a program to read the bank/patch info and convert it to the ins file.

An ins file is a text file with the bank/patch names (plus controller names, if it's done thoroughly) so it's no big deal. It's fairly easy to extract the names from a sysex dump when you know the sysex file structure of a specific synth.

I've done that years and years ago for one of my old hardware synths, just for fun, with a simple Basic program .

As for softsynths - they don't have ins files; they come with their own built-in patch names. They should be visible to Sonar, too, but some aren't programmed correctly in that respect.

The value in such tool would be the structure for the different synths. I'm surprised that with all these years of midi, such tool doesn't exist.

I think you're looking for UniQuest or MIDIQuest.
