importing iphone mp4a files in x3e prob

I recently got an iphone  5c with latest ios. I recorded a vocal on the garageband mike. I emailed the file to myself and tried to open it in x3e(64bit)
The message came back either unsupported file type or corrupted file.
The file will play on win 8.1(64 bit) and media player, do I need to convert to mp3 before importing into x3?
It's been awhile since I worked with apple and the IOS is even harder to get a handle on so far.
Thanks Wyndham

You can dig a little deeper but I don't think mp4a is a supported format in Sonar. I believe it's an apple file format, can you export from garage band as a .wav or mp3?

That's what I was afraid might be the case. I tunes has a convert to mp3, which I found but that might be the way to go.
    Thanks, Wyndham

If you have to convert, avoid another lossy format

You may also run into an issue if you use iTunes to convert to an MP3 and THEN try importing into Sonar.  I seem to remember having some problems and I think it had to do with the way iTunes encodes the MP3- an anti-piracy kind of thing. I've converted to an MP3 in iTunes and then used Audacity and export to a 16 bit Wave file.   THEN I was able to import into Sonar.  ...then again the MP3 might work and it could have been on my end.

There used to be an issue with mp3 id tags, but I believe that's resolved now?

M4a's are now supported in X3e but I guess not MP4a's.

That was an x3e enhancement. M4a now supported but in any case iTunes will convert m4a/AAC files to wav for you. It will do batches for you too. It's the fastest method available for conversion.

I regularly get audio files from the Mac world. Just short snippets or sound bytes recorded for educational purposes. Sometimes need to convert 50 on the trot, without a hitch.

MPEG4 audio is supported in X3e. Did you try opening the same file that you emailed on the same system in Win8 assuming you are running Win8 on your X3 machine. If it doesn't open we can take a look if you make the file available to download.
MP4 audio should definitely be supported as long as its a valid file.
