input clipping

Hey guys I have X1 Producer installed and I'm using a Line6 TonePort UX2 as my audio interface. I have the ASIO UX2 selected as my input and output device. I'm using a TAMA Rhythm Watch as my click and no matter how low I set the input gain on my X1 channel it clips. Is there a way to set a pad on this? What can I do. Thanks for any help.

bassist Joe, I am assuming you are recording and trying to adjust the gain in X1 ,
This must be done in your hardware not the X1 software. Gain must be adjusted before it hits your sound card.
       make sense?

David has it spot on, any input gain reduction must be done before the A/D converters. There should be some way of controlling it on the line 6, via it's software if not a physical switch.

I don't have one so can't be specific but that's where it's done.

You should have some software like Gearbox or something that came with the Line 6 device. It allows you to set the Recording level there. If you can't find that try Control Panel, there should be an Icon for either Line 6 or TonePort. If you can't find anything in Control panel either, which is unlikely, open the Windows mixer. If it doesn't already reflect the TonePort then select it from Devices. There you can also adjust the Recording levels.

Are you talking about a direct input from a guitar/keyboard, or a mic?  I don't know the equipment in question.

I ask because a lot of times people over-blow mics even though the metered input on the interface or console is low.  This can be frustrating if you don't know where the issue is.  For most condenser mics with most singers, I need about a -10 db pad.  (Many mics have a pad switch on the actual mic.)

If this doesn't apply to you, sorry, but it may help others.  It can blow your mind to see low levels on the meter and hear distortion coming back.
