[issue] X2a Plugin names instead of plugin dll names
With this change, i am unable to identify plugins in the browser. For example kontakt 3. Kontakt comes as kontakt 3.dll, kontakt 3 8out.dll and as kontakt 3 16out.dll In sonars browser, Pre x2a, I saw Kontakt 3, Kontakt 3 8out and kontakt 3 16out. NOW, I see three times Kontakt 3 and I don't know which one of these entries is which dll... Why this change? Sonar is the only host I know of which shows this behaviour, with x2a...

FWIW, the Plugin Manager allows you to name the plugins whatever you like.

Readme advises re-running VST scan because of changes in the way Plugin Manager handles naming. You did read the readme, right?

Yes, I read it. So reading it does make my plugins better identifiable? Shall I rename dozens of plugins now (which gets lost on the next scan nevertheless)? Nobody else is bothered with multiple same plugin names corresponding to different dlls?

My mistake, that instruction was in the patch info on the download page, not the ReadMe. In any case, I'm not sure why you're having a problem. I only have one VST that has multiple versions like that - ARIA Player and ARIA Player (multi) - and it is displaying correctly.

No other host does this, every other host shows the dll name, as did sonar Pre x2a, for how many years now? It's common standard for developers to provide multiple dlls and only change the AEffect flags indicating how many I/Os the dll provides, with the dll name differ, but not the plugin name as it technically is the same plugin, with different I/O config only. Why this changes which does nothing but causing issues?

It doesn't display UAD 6.4 64bit mono plugins right. I have both stereo and mono versions installed and now they are both listed as duplicates in the plugin manager, although the first one in the list is the mono version as viewed in the plugin properties section. The "(m)" part of the plugin name is now dropped. Before the X2a patch, they displayed correctly. BTW, I did reset and rescan as suggested.

I did the same thing - changed the friendly name. Re-scan keeps the changed names. I am not finding this to be the case. All my customized names are lost on re-scan - at least the ones not in saved in a layout. I am beginning to sympathize with the OP's concern.

I changed the names in the Registered Plugins (middle section in the Plug In Mgr). New names still fine in my custom layout - checked: different projects, 64 & 32 bit X2, reboot PC. In the Browser, delete the old-named plugin, move in the newly named one & save.

Scanned my plugins and got results that I didn't expect. I'm getting VSTi Folders in Audio drop down menus. I'm also getting 32 bit versions of plugins showing up when only the 64 bit versions should appear. This is in the browser and not the old Add FX menus.

You have a few formatting choices here for the VST name, which are controllable via a new ini setting. Add a new variable VSTPlugInNameFormat via Edit | Preferences | Initialization file. You can set the value to either 0, 1, 2, 3. 0 - Format 0: Vst supplied name which is the new default 1 - Format 1: DLL Name which is the old behavior 2 - Format 2: VST Plugin Name (DLL Name) 3 - Format 3: DLL Name (VST Plugin Name) After you create the variable, restart SONAR and the menus should display the new naming format.

Great! I chose option 3 for now. I like the mini status bar in the plug-in browser. I think NI must use the small vsts as wrappers that call the major vsts. So they all have the same VST name. Something like how savihost works.

I can't run X2a. It seemed to go well but as soon as I started working with the browser troubles began. I was seeing nothing under audio effects, in fact it displayed instruments instead. This was after the rescan. My graphics seemed to become corrupted at that point and I was seeing some sort of code in the browser and the mess crashed. Cake should have received a dump because the problem reporter still works. I've never had a Sonar product do this so I did a system restore and will repeat the D/L

I had one group of plugs...Audifex pedal plugins...that showed up in plugin manager but not in the list of plugs to select until I went in and removed all of them from their folder...replaced them in their folder and resaved plugin manager. So far my only trouble.

I can live with it... Yes - the Plug-in Manager just shows the vst name, not the dll. But if you click the name it will show the filename below. The browser is great if you have a lot of plug-ins - and you can organize them any way you like. I guess the plug-in manager does not read the INI file that Sonar uses.

Mod Bod Scanned my plugins and got results that I didn't expect. I'm getting VSTi Folders in Audio drop down menus. I'm also getting 32 bit versions of plugins showing up when only the 64 bit versions should appear. This is in the browser and not the old Add FX menus. Just for the record, the 32 bit issue was because I had a double installation of the UAD plugins being scanned. I fixed this by not scanning the x86 installation. However, I got the unexpected results as the others did. I have also seen the fix for that and I am going to fix that now.

Tried the different options and the Waves plugins seem to like the default the best. The UAD mono plugins are in a separate folder so that is neatly organized that way. The old default didn't work with the Waves shell at all.
