FastBikerBoy: i will attempt to file a bug report(i never have before), but will abandon it if the process starts to seem like work.
Bristol and FBB are correct, that it's not going to be considered a "bug" by Cakewalk, because that's the way it's always been with the Piano Roll View. In all previous Sonars. You expand, collapse, zoom the way you want, but if you leave that view and re-open it later, it's back to the default display and you have to push things around again.
The tabbed view in previous Sonars is of course analogous to screensets. I still primarily use 8.5, and keep my bank of tabbed views available in lower right hand quadrant of the screen. As long as the PRV tab is left open, and I always do leave it open (no reason to close it), when I return to it from one of the other views, the zoom and everything else is exactly as I left it. But if the PRV is closed for some reason and reopened - then it's back to the default.
It seems like it could be reprogrammed so it remembers your on-the-fly adjustments to window size, controller pane size, zoom level, vertical position et al. I think maybe it's been a low priority for Cakewalk to change this, because when working in the PRV, most often a user is needing to constantly change things around depending on the work being done at a given moment. I know that's true of me. I'm constantly re-zooming, collapsing/expanding the Controller Pane, scrolling up and down in the main window to see high/low notes. I'm doing so much work in the PRV, constantly moving things, that having the layout remain exactly the same when I return to it doesn't usually matter - I'll need a new layout when I go back, dictated by the particular edit I have in mind.
Note - With the PRV open, when you choose different tracks to display, changing from one to another, the zoom level will stay the same, but the whole bottom area of controller panes will pop back up to the default position.
Here's something which IS a PITA - The PRV will continue to display controller panes/lanes that have no data. If the PRV has been closed, when you return to it, all those lanes you may have "Xd" closed will be open again, and to save room, you have to go through the column and click them closed again. Now that is definitely a PITA to me.
SO, even though the problem isn't as severe to me as it is to you, Worstcase, I know what you're talking about, and think the programming should be more sophisticated in this area.
