just when you head swells up and you think you might be able to sing ok...
Just when you head swells up and you think you might be able to sing ok... Right after reading all the very nice comments about the recent YouTube video clip I posted I find myself working in Albany Georgia for a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the civil rights movement activities here in Georgia. The morning started with me hanging out with a group of acapella singers performing a combination of gospel, work song, and field hollers that evolved into protest songs in the late 1950s. The Albany Freedom Singers were part of the Students for a Nonviolent Coordination Comittee. http://www.bernicejohnson...m/freedomsingers.shtml It was a group whom were visited by Pete Seeger early on and he encouraged them to travel widely to promote the cause. They did. http://www.georgiaencyclo.../Article.jsp?id=h-3670 I found myself standing in a room filled with 80-90 year singers who were kids in 1961 and they sang so beautifully and generously that I almost started weeping. It was so cool to see them share the mics and pass them on for solos. Most of the people can still be recognized from the photos made during their youth movement. Sometimes I find myself surrounded by inspiration. I really can't explain it any better. all the best, mike

Does the Elm in the forest compare itself to the Oak? Are not the ferns on the forest floor every bit as fine as the grandest trees?

I know what you mean. Years ago, I rented a room from a friend who owns a studio. I never thought I had a great voice, but I would be humbled almost every day by the talent of the musicians who were recording. Once in a great while though, someone would come in and restore my confidence. But that was rare. Very rare.

I'm so out of practice that I don't don't worry about it any more.

Come to think of it--I do need restoration (a complete rebuild might be the ticket). It has nothing to do with singing, though.

Albany was one of my old stomping grounds. In fact I may be going to the area later this year as I have family there. Lots of talent there. Home of Ray Charles..... Sounds like a fun gig Mike! I thought you did very well on the video.
