kick drum sound

Hi guys and girls, there is a kick drum sound on a matty b track called "hooked on you" it's on youtube for reference listening, it is the kind of kick drum sound i just dont seem to be able to get, when using either AD Drums or EZ Drummer even when i layer with samples, EQ compress or what ever so has any one any clue how to achieve that sound...i doubt the artist in question would have the time or need to tell me so i wont bother asking hence i come to you people and your knowledge!
regards Peter

A quick listen tells me it sounds somewhat like a classic 808 kick.

Try this YouTube video for ideas on fattening an 808:

Also, see Zo's review of the Boz Sasquatch plug-in. It can be used to modify kick drums with good success.
The Boz plug is currently on sale.

thanks mikedocy, very helpfull info...indeed when i analyzed the kick in question it is peaking at 50 hz at about 10 db and cuts off steeply at about 240-250 hz i just like the sound of this kick, i am guessing matty b's producer use's a lot of ready made samples which is fine i just want to learn how to make such sounds from scratch using a vst such as AD or EZ  which in a roundabout sort of way are samples! my living room is not big enough for a drum kit plus at a wild guess my neighbors might get a bit angry with the noise!!!!

also in the boz post the man shows how to use the sasquatch he puts it on an "aux" track...why? could he have also make a bus track and insert it there and then send the various drum components to that bus and save real estate?

The best way to use Sasquatch would be to use it as a plug-in on the audio track of the kick drum.
Yes, you can put it on a bus and send various drum components to it, but they will obviously all get the same treatment which may or may not be desired. The Sasquatch was designed to be a bass drum processor. I have read about some people experimentally using it on snare and toms, but again, that was not the original intent of the plug-in design.

The Addictive Drums Reel Machines AD Pak has 808 sounds. https://www.xlnaudio.com/products/adpak/reel_machines . Unfortunately the XLN 50% off sale ended yesterday. The Boz Digital Sasquatch is insanely cool on kick, snare and toms and is still on sale.

thanks once again for the infomation and it is getting me there...btw @RSMCGUITAR pointing out your opinion about the song, whist valid for you and your tastes and needs in music does not contribute in terms of useful information and as you know music is a fantastic way of expression for any one and everyone, it is impossible to determine what is "good" or "bad" music, there simply is no reference point for that...or indeed no need for it...enjoy the music!!!

Did you try looking in Cakewalk SI Drums or Session Drummer 3?  SI has some lo-fi kits, and Session Drummer has some Electronic & Hip Hop and Rhythm Machine kits.

Session Drummer has some 808's and you can isolate the kick with the built-in drum mixer.

For as good 808 and 909 sounds as you'll find in a plugin take a look at d16’s emulations of the hardware.

If you've never heard 'raw' 808/909 kicks be prepared for a surprise though, they're actually pretty basic sounds until further processed.

    Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,

Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

Just FYI, the Roland TR-808 was an analog device.  It did not use drum samples.  Instead, the kick used a sine wave, pitched real low.  This could probably be re-created in any virtual analog synth.

yes indeed the 808 was not an actual kick drum sound it was electronically originally the TR-808 was not an instant hit on the market as opposed to the TR-707 the model before it but as time went on the sound became very popular in clubs and such..my original post refereed to the sound i hear on the song mentioned, but that is probably due to the processing done, could you imagine a classic Beatles song with an 808 on it?!!!! dont think ringo starr would have approved that

I think the guidance given in post #2 above about "fattening" up the kick should get you in the ballpark with either a sampled or synthesized 808 kick sound.

The example uses processing on the "raw" sound with tube saturation, EQ, compression, limiter, etc.
