kontrol s stops sending midi after about 90 seconds ever since recent update
Anyone else having trouble? I updated to latest kontrol software (and did the requisite keyboard firmware update) two days ago. At first worked fine but now, two days later with no changes to anything the keyboard stops sending midi after about 90 seconds whether using nks or non-nks instruments. I am totally baffled. Also note that when I open Service Center it tells me I have pending updates for the kontrol software and a few other random NI products, even though all have been downloaded and installed already. Any help appreciated! PS - I would have guessed that it wasnt recognizing the new firmware anymore but that seems odd. How could the keyboard revert to old firmware. Also, when first downloaded new software I tried running without the firmware update and in that case, no instruments would even recognize the keyboard as a midi source. Now it is recognized (most of the time, not always). Weird! Brian

Mine seems to be working OK both via Komplete Kontrol and in MIDI mode in Sonar.
Is your driver up to date?

Glyn, you seem to be quite expert at all things komplete and kontrol. Is it normal behavior that when I run Service Center it frequently lists as available updates things that I have already downloaded and installed? This includes the latest kontrol and maschine software version and drivers - even though I have downloaded and installed each of them at least three times. Maschine, btw, works fine. The other issue I am suddenly seeing is that komplete kontrol software seemingly randomly does not see the kontrol keyboard and says my focusrite 212 is 'not present'. Then, when by some random stroke of luck it sees both the keyboard and the focusrite, it works beautifully - for about 90 seconds. At that point it seems to longer send midi, even though I can access the browser from the keyboard and the kontrol s will correctly display parameters for whatever preset is selected. Finally, i have the same issue getting stand alone plugs to recognize the kontrol, as a midi source. Similar to above, once recognized, the midi cuts out after about 90 seconds. Appreciate any insight you may have. The laptop is an HP i7, 16gB, 1.5T hardrive, touchcreen unit that I have had for about 5 months. Never a prob before. I also have a desktop system that I have not run updates on yet (reluctant to do so now) , but I usually use a PC3X as controller on that system so not have same issues. Brian

I did have a similar issue with the S61 drivers. I fixed it by downloading and installing the driver from the NI website rather than service centre. As for your other problems I have no idea. As a long shot, what about a bad cable or connector. I have see USB ports on laptops disconnet their selves partially from the motherboard causing intermittent connection problems. There is a 1.6.1 update released today. The release notes do noy mention anything that appears to relate to your problem but its worth a try.

Thanks for your feedback. I noticed that the recent maschine update got pulled and apparently kontrol update is also pulled now. Hard to decipher what the issue was but think it had to do with third party plugs and like you said prob not my issue. I will dl from website and keep my fingers crossed. I am going to replace the usb cable to the interface because I think that may be part of the problem. Brian

Gradually sorting things out. The focusrite problem seems to be secondary to having it plugged into a non powered usb port. I am new to using laptop for studio. I thought the powered usb was only important for charging devices but apparently the usb powered interface requires use of a powered port. I guess that seems obvious when you think about it. Still have annoying problem of midi cutting out on the s61. This is independent of whether using komplete kontrol or any stand alone. What i have noticed is that the problem is akin to a stuck note except instead of the note continuously sounding it just shuts down the audio output.. Once it stops responding the user interface for all plugs indicate that they are getting continuous data (i.e., in AGP , the guitar string keeps vibrating like it is not getting a midi off, although it is not sustaining everything like it never gets the midi off. Similar in Maverick, the midi note indicator green bar stays lit) Despite this, the browser functions still work - i can navigate to other instruments or presets, they just wont respond to note data or controller data. Something seems corrupt but not sure what. Brian

I wonder if it a buffer setting? If its too low maybe things are jamming up. I will have a look tomorrow, just guessing and clutching straws at the moment.

I started thinking yesterday that it seems like some sort midi buffer overrun?? I don't really know what causes that and can't find much info on it. I have determined that the prob is not w komplete kontrol since it happens w non NI stand alones as well. That leaves me w the firmware update to the keyboard as a possible culprit. Also remembered that I had a win 10 auto update when shut down the computer after doing update the first time. Will try to uninstall the update and see what happens. Brian

Is there anyway you can try the Keyboard with another computer? It might help isolate the problem. Or is there another Keyboard you can try with your computer? I cant see any option to change any MIDI settings in the Komplete Kontrol software. You say it happens with other stand alones, but what about in a DAW? You could try posting on the NI S-Series forum. It can be a little hit and miss but you may get a response. https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/forums/komplete-kontrol-s-series.354/

Going to try w desktop tonight. That system has not had the NI software or firmware update, though may have same win 10 update. Will be interesting. I had mentioned before that system quits at around 90 seconds. But have noticed that if I play sparsely and without controllers is lasts significantly longer. That has made me think that a buffer is filling up. Brian

Results of ttonight's experiments: Kontrol s61 will drive old version of Komplete Kontrol and any stand alone on my desktop system with no problem - so I am concluding that the firmware update is not an issue. My other keyboard, Kurz PC3X will drive the old version of Komplete Kontrol on my desktop. It will NOT drive the new version of Komplete Kontrol on my laptop which does not surprise me because the S61 would not drive the new version of KK until the firmware was upgraded. This leaves me thinking that from this point forward KK can only be driven by Kontrol series keyboards (with updated firmware). The Kurz will drive all of the full Kontact versions of the KK instruments on the laptop with no problem. The Kurz will also drive non-NI stand alones on the laptop with no problem. S61 will intermittently drive KK and stand alones on the laptop. Not sure sure how consistent this is, but if I start out with say a stand alone of Lounge Lizard there seems to be no prob. If I then go into KK and try to play the KK version of Lounge Lizard that is not happening, not will it play Monarch or Maverick. If I then leave KK and go back to stand alone Lounge Lizard even that won't work any more. Thinking my version of KK update software is a corrupt install. This makes some sense because I thought the new software worked when I first installed. It was the next day or 2 days later when the Service Center wanted me to download it again (might have been the hot fix) that I think the problems may have started. Will uninstall and try again. Tomorrow. Brian

If the KK software is corrupt, maybe the Kurz will drive it once I get a good install. Will check that also. Brian
