Um, you can't get there from here.  You can buy a USB audio interface, like the Behringer UA 202 for  about $30, and a USB midi interface for not much more.  On board audio, if it works at all, will drive you crazy very quickly. You won't be able to overdub anything because of latency.  I used a setup like the one above for a year before I upgraded, and it worked fine.  And nobody was poorer than me back then.  Collect some deposit bottles or something.  C'mon, 30 bucks?

The easiest way is to by a MIDI - USB interface. eg. E-Mu. follow the instrutions when you setup the drivers. When you're ready everything wil work fine.

And do take the advice to heart JP.  When I first made the painful transition from a hardware home studio to a computer based one, at first I lived under the delusion that I could get by with a built in sound card.  It didn't take long to realize--ooooh, um, it'd be better to not have this 1 second delay between hitting a key and hearing a sound, and having a play back which sounds like it's emitting from a rusty blender set to high. - You need an Audio/MIDI interface.
