latency issues with music creator 5

i purschased music creator 5 about 6 months ago. of course when it came time to record guitar or vocals into it, i experienced latency problems. i have since then purchased an alesis io2 usb interface and i am still experiencing the same problems. i did download the asio4all drivers but then i could not hear output on the music creator. i had to put the sound option back on the mme drivers to get sound. i have messed with the buffer as best as possible and still have latency issues. i was told by a friend that i need a new sound card on top of all of this. any suggestions out there? this is just the first of many problems.... but i figured i'd start with this one.

The Alesis is a sound card (audio interface), so don't worry about getting another one.
How are you monitoring the device?
In Options>Audio, you need to select the Alesis as both playback and recording device, and select the ASIO4All driver. Deselect any other device.

    Billy....Welcome...

So... have you tried setting the IO2 up as Greg suggests...as the input and output for audio and also for MIDI?   Deselect the computers sound cards and devices.

Next would be to select ASIO drivers and run the wave profiler again.  You should not need to use the ASIO4ALL wrapper if the IO2 supports the actual ASIO drivers.  ASIO is the best driver to use for music.

It took me a few days to figure it all out the very first time I was trying to get MC to work with my interface. Work on getting the audio working first.

That is a cool looking interface.

I looked it up Herb; there are no real ASIO drivers for it. In fact, the have a link to download ASIO4All on their 'Docs and Downloads' page.
I wish I remembered how to set it up. That was a long time ago, and I could never get it to work well with my system.

If it didn't come with ASIO drivers, then using the WDM might be the proper alternative. I use WDM to get lower latency with my sound card. Try changing your driver mode to WDM, then change the buffer size and latency settings to optimize your latency to a usable point.

    +1 ^

if it comes with neither WDM or ASIO drivers then I would put it in my "do not buy category"  I simply do not understand companies that will not create decent drivers for soundcards which are more than $30.
