'laute menschen'

dear cakewalk power users,

this is a new song called 'laute menschen' (German for 'loud people'). This one is very different from my previous songs. I originally to wanted to use soft synths, samples and loops only...but just couldn't resist, and added some guitars to the middle part

for those whose German skills are a little rusted: this song is about these people who love to talk, no rather yell in their cell phone, preferably in crowdy buses or trams, and do not mind telling their whole life to the public! if you live in a city, I guess you have met this charming kind.

all comments, in regards to the mix, song, or lyrics (hehe) are as always very welcome!

Lots of sauerkraut happening hear. Good mix and vocals sound good, but this in not my genre so I'll leave it at that. Is this what the German's are listening to these days? Pretty wild stuff!!

speedtom, don't understand German at all. But this sounded great to me. Your voice reminded me of Talking Heads.

    Dear John,

thanks for listening and your comment! No, this song is not what Germans are listening today, this is rather what Germans tend to ignore these days! you know - this is not my genre either, but I wanted to try out something new.

some things just need to get out of you!

    Dear Chasmcg,

thanks a lot! Never knew that my voice sounds like David Byrne, but I take this as a compliment. Maybe I have picked up some of his style while working for David Byrne as a stagehand for his concert back in 1992! You never know where you got your influences from...

+1 on the Talking Heads.  The mix is good, vocals are out front, and I liked the middle part where the guitar comes in.  I really liked those solo parts in the bass vocal.

It's been a long time since Deutsch 101 though.  Auf wiedersehen.

Sounds good Tom, not my cuppa musical tea, but the production is fine for the genre.

    Dear Olemon,

thanks for listening and commenting! I love Talking Heads, so I am flattered! Too bad your German skills have vanished, would love to hear your opinion on the lyrics

    Dear James,

thanks for your comments - it is good to know that the mix is okay, for this is not my (usual) genre, too.

cool song.  def. talking heads vibe on the vocals.  If you are a guitar guy, why not make what I think is the chorus synth part a dirty guitar too?  That musical synth line that first shows up around :40 would be cool as hell being doubled by guitar.  You could even add some more big acoustic drums for that as well.  That way it would be a cool hybrid of synthy stuff with a Muse like dirty guitar part on the chorus.  I've had a bit too much coffee this morning; if this is a dumb idea, blame the caffeine.

You have captured many elements that show the Germanic origins of this, like my vocals I can not understand a word but as noted the production sound well here.

    Dear Sven,

keep the coffee rolling - this is a cool idea! I have started out with acoustic drums with my sketch, but removed them because I wanted, for the first time, keep it as electronic as possible. For a guitarist like me a big thing. But I must admit that this idea has its charm. I will try this out after the two projects I want to finish first. So thanks for the inspiration!

Well, spank my monkey!  I love the creative horn arrangement in this, as well as the vocal.  This is very danceable and would sound terrific in a club with big speakers.  The fact that this is not your normal style just shows your versatility.  Super job on this!

    Hi, Tom,

This is very different for you, but it's also a really cool sounding EDM track!

Nice work on the writing and arranging, it's got a great driving rhythm and tasty synth textures.  Your vocals sound really good (even though I can't understand German), and I agree about the Talking Heads vibe, and I really love the bridge and "shimmering" clean guitar part that starts at about 2:28.  You've also got a nice, clean sounding modern mix.  I can easily picture this playing to a crowded dance floor in an after hours nightclub.

Cool dance song, you've got great skills, my friend!

    Best Wishes,
    Bob

    Dear Lynn,

my fellow Wilson, thanks a lot for your kind words! I am glad I have discovered the power of soft synth and am willing to explore further. Man, sometimes it is hard to focus just on songwriting and not get lost with the sheer possibilites!

    Dear Bob,

I am glad you are liking this. So, when will you tour the old contiment? If so, I can open up for you, but not with my band, but just with a laptop (with our favorite software SONAR on it) and throw out some dance tunes! As always it is great to hear from you!

I think if this your first try at this genre then you have done an exceptional job, very well thought out arrangement. Nice mix too.
Lead vocals could have been a little more tuneful, but that could be just my ignorance of this type of music.

Good for you for reaching out and trying out something new!!!  It feels good to do this every once in a while doesn't it?
I get a bit of a Talking Heads meets dance music from this number also.  Everything sounds good to me -- production, instrumentation, and vocals.  Although I don't speak German, that was not necessary to realize that you did an excellent job on the vocals.  The song itself has an infectious rhythm that I am sure would work well on any dance floor.
    Nice one indeed!!!

I wanted to comment on this song because you made a very insightful comment on one of my songs.  But I simply cannot wrap my head around this song.  It's just beyond my understanding.  So then I checked out your other songs and listened to Dallas (Tennessee).  That song is very cool!!  It's got lot's of energy and great riffs.  You sound like David Bowie in the pre-chorus.  I like the lyrics and the ATTITUDE!!!  Cool stuff!

    Dear Ralph,

thanks a lot for your listen and comment! I am glad you like Dallas Tennessee, which is indeed more of the stuff I normally play. I hope one feels obliged to write something about my stuff just because I have posted something about theirs...to me this forum is like a music magazine, in which I am welcome to listen and review music. And how cool is that! ;-)

    Dear Starise,

thank you for your listen! My German is fairly good, I mean, after 40 years in this country it better should ;-)

Dear Daniel aka the noisy neighbour,

thanks a lot - finally someone who can understand the lyrics! I bet Amsterdam has its share of "laute menschen"...
