lock ups

i have been using Sonar X2 for about a month and I can't say i have had one session without a problem. 1. Export to WAV file - most of the times it locks up. I can't close Sonar. Can't closed it from the Task bar or application section. Usually have to reboot computer 2. Some times it locks up and say's its not responding. It doesn't matter how many tracks are on it or plug-ins at the time. This happens randomly. This has happened during play back with no inputs live. Just random. The frustrating part is that I can't close it to reopen it. Some times I have to do a hardboot which is the last resort. This one is unforgivable. 3. I have had the mouse move on its own at times. And the forward and rewind start moving on its own. Don't think that has anything to do with incompatibility issues because this is the only software on my computer that this does it with. I know my computer is solid because I have run earlier version of Cakewalk. I've run this version with different types of interfaces and all do the same thing. I'm not going to give out what i have because there is always someone that is going to tell you that sucks. I don't want to here if I have my Interface is directed to a special location on the sound board, or that my IRQ's are not influencing another used register, or if my firewall is set up for a certain configuration, or if the moon is full then turn on your interface before your hardrive because the pull of gravity is too great. . . . NO. You introduce a software package and you make sure its been tested and works on the majority of situations. Not on the selective situations. Don't expect a response. . . . just venting Thanks

Sounds like something running in the background on your system tying things up.

I had a something as simple as a dirty mouse cause it one time. Tried cleaning the red LED and lense, ended up replacing it to fix it.

Could be almost anything messing around in the background is my thought on it.

The fact that you can run older versions without a problem could be indicative of something else that needs to be updated. This isn't far fetched from the issues people have with this forum version and FireFox. At some point Sonar probably has some code tweaked/optimized, or removed to save some space, but lowers tolerance to something else running that isn't 100% supported.

Don't rule out a full re-install of X2a. This helped me minimize some crashes. Remove X2a, then do all the updates you can find for existing hardware and the OS, reboot, then re-install X2a. Then re-scan for plug-ins. I've certainly found some improvements in the re-install. Be sure to include Visual C++ Redistributable as one of the updates, as Cakewalk has offered this recommendation for Waves Plug-Ins locking up the DAW.

    Hope this helps!!

Problem is Brian he didn't specify which version of SONAR. If it's just X2 odds are he should patch it to X2A to see if that fixes the issues. I had lock-ups as well mainly due to Breverb before X2A.

OK, here are the specs. It's nothing special and a meet the min. requirement for this software DELL E6510 laptop 4G ram but only 3 in use because of Microsoft's limiting 32 bit os Windows 7, 32 bit - have to use windows 7 because Presonus FP10 doesn't support windows 8 nor will they Interface: Tascam US-122 (old version were again like Presonus, they won't update drivers. This one only has Vista drivers which work sometimes but you will get the blue screen) Presnous FP-10 with new drivers for Windows 7 NI Komplete Audio 6 with drivers for Windows 7 Since I have a lap top, I have an external drive connected through a Firewire connection -just like the FP-10 Both the FP-10 and NI lock-up, mouse uncontrolled movement, hardboot's necessary. Again, this is nothing special. Wireless is shut off because of the firewire. Drivers are recognized and have no issues. This locks up and everything else with just the NI connected and when using the onboard soundcard (I know that sucks but it tells me something is not correct with X2). Lock-ups are usually because Driver problem but I have everything required to not have this happen. Again, if each computer has to be physically altered to get X2 to work, then its not a viable software. Again, I have nothing special and a meet and exceed the min requirements on everything. I'm going to look at the X2a thing. perhaps that will work. After all, I got this about 3 weeks ago. I'm sure there is a bunch of fixes for it. Thanks
