looking for SFZ+ and/or Sampling help

sorry if i don't make sense and sorry if it seems like amateur questions. i've been recording a lot but i mostly figure my way around instead of doing what is probably the most efficient way.

1) how do i set up SFZ+ for use? i have X164 and 32 but for both it gives the "out of memory" dialog. And is it okay to use it as a "simple instrument track?" (I usually always use Simple instrument tracks for Midi because it made more sense to me)

2) Can I use SFZ+ or Dimension Pro to create, build, and manipulate my own samples (mostly in a Hip Hop and Electronic sense)? I'm currently using  Beatscape but it's limited and I'd like to assign each sound  to a midi note and not just slice one entire loop sample into pieces.

sorry if it's been answered a lot already but each of these threads go way over my head and I can't find any working links for tutorials or documentation

-sidenote: how many threads at a time can I post? i've got a lot of questions because i think i've been recording the wrong way for a long time

For the "out of memory" problem, change the "Mode" setting to PR32 before you load a soundfont.

1.b  Use the simple instrument track.  The midi/audio thing made sense, but was always kinda weird to me.

    2. Beatscape is more for loops and has always been a bit funky.  I'm hoping they make it a better engine.  As far as manipulating samples, it depends upon what you mean.

Sound Forge etc. is great for mucking up raw samples.  You need such a tool for cutting, trimming, volume matching etc.

SFZ (not the synth itself) is a formating language for sound organization and is a step above the raw samples.  You use it point the SFZ synth or Dimension or Rapture or any SFZ complient synth (Alchemy for example) to a folder w/ the samples, spread those samples across the keyboard and a constantly expanding effects.  Look on the developers page for info on SFZ.

Dimension uses the organized SFZ samples as the sound source for the synthesiser (Sample and Synthesis).  SFZ+ does the same thing but isn't as deep.  So the sample is triggered and is shaped by an envelope and goes to a filter where it is further shaped and can be effected (everything from bit decimation to reverb).

If you want to create your own samples to be used it is fairly easy.  Capture the sample.  If it is an fx you don't really need to do to much more, tho you can.  Just load the sample into dimension and program away.  If it is an "instrument" find an SFZ file that more or less matches the instrument and adapt that file to your sounds.  SFZ is plain english but has a grammer.  The sfz file usually goes in the file w/ the samples.  Just open up one of Dimension files to get an idea.  You can then save it as a program.
