You're a lucky man!!
Sometimes, it's just a matter of the PC's internal components getting along with the audio interface........other times, it's just me.

I just fear change, then go mad and change everything

I still have the XP machine. My friend's son built it for me 9 years ago when he was 16 (bright lad).

Here's the thing though - I NEVER allowed any updates on that machine, it never let me down, and it's still running now, albeit at a snail's pace.

Software should be an easier sale....if the price is right.

Just have to find the right buyer again

True dat.......they'll come around. I suppose, patience is the game. Generally, I don't sell much at all (if any)....I like almost ALL of my software and been trying to purchase stuff I'll keep/use (the aniti-Bapu-syndrome.....ABS).

The only reason I'm trying to sell, is to be able to buy Kontakt / Komplete from NI...

So that's what ABS stands for

Nice!! You'll really like Komplete.....I'd like to get K-Ultimate (upgrade from Komplete 9).....just too much right now.
If you can be a bit patient, NI usually has their 50% off sales during June/July.....or get a good deal over at KVR.

ABS is just a synonym for IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).......aka FSF......there's a lot of stuff just tied in with this.

I also have my first DAW PC I built in 2007 (still with 95% of the original hardware) running on Win8 (started with XP). I actually did all the updates, but never had any issues. IIRC, the parts I got were NOT the best available and were somewhat on the cheaper end. It's still going strong as the family/school PC.

The only downside is it's limited with the amount of RAM (4GB), and running multiple apps can bring it to a halt.

My DAW is also XP, Media Center Edition. Software is SHS 6 XL. Everything works fine, mostly, so why change?
It was also my internet/do everything machine until around 2011.
I'm still looking for the Talent software, though.

SHS6XL was a nice piece of software. I think I liked it better than I do Sonar Professional.

I wonder if I've been lucky with my 2i4, or if it's just that I don't really do that much recording these days.

Not really, but if you use a DAW as an overgrown tape recorder like I do, Sonar doesn't really fit that simple bill now. SHS6XL was very easy and intuitive for that kind of use.
