Oh, and craig... ice and heat, dood. Right before bed and again in the morning if need be.

Ten minutes ice. 10-15 minutes heat. Repeat once doing a few stretches in between applications.

If at night do it right before you go to sleep and don't get up/futz around until morning if at all possible.

That way I'd piss my bed at least 2.5 times (on average) per night.

@Beeps:  Oh, believe me, I know a lot about back issues!  I've even done what my doctor said was impossible.  When my L3 & L4 degenerated into a mess, the good 'ol fusion surgery was recommended but I didn't want to be like that for the rest of my life so...

While talking with my advanced hypnosis (and NLP) instructor, he suggested reframing the issue saying that I had "regenerating" discs instead of the opposite (since all cells in your body are regenerating all the time with bone cells taking the longest).  Well, it took about 3.5 years, but I managed to regrow my discs and, when I went back to the doctor after blowing out my rotator cuff he asked what procedure I had done for my back (he was surprised I had been back playing sports).  When I told him he said he wanted to take a picture (x-ray) and after looking at the result all he could say was "That's impossible!"  So much for Western medicine!  Oh yeah, I was 6' 3" in high-school, shrunk to 6' 1.25" with the back issues then seemed to regain my height afterwards.  A few years ago my friend said I looked taller than 6' 3" so I got measured the next time I was in a doctor's office and, sure enough, I was now 6' 4"!
