Fermentation was discussed a couple pages back.

But I don't remember if we've discussed tree bark here yet.

Good news James!!
Did they say what caused the swelling?

Good news indeed.

I did the blood clot thing several years back and it was a bit unnerving at the time.

Cellulitis caused by (probably) an insect bite or sting, maybe even an adder bite. They're lurking in the long grass at the moment...

Antibiotics for a week, hopefully that'll sort it out.

Yes, I had one 17 years ago, quite spectacular. It was the same leg, so I was worried. That time my leg swelled by 10cm and never returned to it's normal size.

How did yours come about Drew?

I was working on my little red tractor - the first time she saw it after we met, she actually told me it was "cute"!  I had to explain that there was nothing "cute" about it and it was in fact a very manly tractor.

Anyway, I thought I had strained a calf muscle or something when trying to turn a stuck bolt while bracing with my leg. So I just walked around on it without ever noticing how it was all swelled up like you say.

For like six weeks.

Then I happened to have a normally scheduled doctors appointment and the doctor took one look at it, made some calls to get me squeezed in for an ultrasound that afternoon and I was in the hospital that night. Basically I was just on blood thinners for a while, but in retrospect it was scary that I was walking around on it for so long (for those that aren't familiar with such things, if a clot breaks free and goes to the wrong place it can be life threatening in a hurry).

So I've learned not to let unusual afflictions go unchecked. Better safe than sorry and all that.
