Not too much going on this weekend.....I just got Ample Sounds Yin Yang Bass and will be checking it out, but my plan is to get a "real" bass. Will definitely be getting some advice from you, Drew, and Bapu (hey that rhymes ).

Mesh, for me it's always about the neck and string spacing. I can't play Hofner or Ibanez basses for sure. The string spacing is just too tight for me. I'd say my hand is too big but that might sound like I'm bragging.

I'm planning on getting a decent cheapo bass (possibly under $200)......I'll very likely test out a few at the local GC. 
I was also thinking about getting a "mikro" bass as it's about the size of a guitar, but haven't played it to have any opinion on it.

Yes 
I start tonight at 9 PM, and my weekend ends on Monday morning at 9.15..
12 1/4 hours per shift.
 
I guess both Bapu and Drew can give you better advice than me on a proper bazz.
But I know a little about the cheaper stuff 
My Yamaha RBX 375 is good enough for me by far 
I'm not Shure if it's in production still, though..
Found one new on eBay, which were a little more expensive than what I payed for mine 3-4 years ago.
There's always 2nd hand
