couldn't afford to move where we were (Cotswolds)
A very sad and unfortunate state of affairs and this happens everywhere across the UK. Gets me quite mad thinking about it actually...
I think we stayed pretty much on the main roads and it wasn't until we got past Fort William that roads started to feel like the country lanes of Wales, for instance (another lovely country). Then again, we spent the first night up at Loch Trool, which was nice, so, yeah, those roads, away from the main A75 were a bit "rough" in places.
And the midges were a nightmare that first night! We had no idea! Woke up covered in little red blotches and the camper was filled with the midges. It was Sunday morning and I remember thinking, " everywhere is going to be close." But, fortunately, there was a hardware shop open in a little place called Newton Stewart so we called in and got some fly spray and a pack of those sticky things.
We made our way back to the A75, pulled over in a layby, emptied out anything that wasn't fixed and nuked the little feckers!
