This is great news, Meng.
I've actually been working in Singapore since 2010 (I spend nearly 3/4 of every year there). The first round is on me if I run across you guys.

Arguably the best news of the year this is! I was going to use Sonar till it stops working. Turns out, I can keep on use it for the lifetime!

Not that it would have stopped working - versions of SONAR 10 years old or more still run fine on Windows 10 :)
But yes for power users who rely on their software being updated frequently its important to have a commitment to future development. BandLab has a history of agile development much like SONAR did in the last 3 years, so we definitely have common beliefs in how modern software should be built and deployed.

I think the Windows 10 insistence in updating created an uncertainty that users say n 8.5 with Windows 7 didn't have to worry about

Noel and Ben. I hope to see you kicking some of the competitors. When the bad news came, a friend of mine came laughing at the whole situation which to me was not funny. But my answer was that I was sure someone would buy a talented company like Cakewalk. My students are very happy with this news. We are all very excited for the future. I hope you have a closed package for music schools with a number of students. It will make my life much easier in the future!

BandLab is very committed to music education. Have you seen the latest educational version of BandLab?
Its a terrific integration of teachers and classrooms with the platform. If you are interested in education definitely check it out. Go to edu.bandlab.com.  My wife is going to be trying this with her students.

From meng's first post:

"our steadfast goal is that former SONAR owners (of all versions) will not need to spend any money to cross-over/cross-grade to the future flagship product"

The way I read this, SONAR is not coming back. We'll be offered a new product that contains some to a lot of Cakewalk IP. And owners of a Lifetime license for SONAR will not be asked to pay for it.

All good news.

I believe this explains the wording (from http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3730929)

...
Actually, the reason why I am not using the word SONAR when referring to the new flagship product is not because it's planned to be a different product, it's just that we're doing the legal/brand work to make sure calling it that would be the right thing to do and wouldn't cause any confusion in the market given the circumstances. You can take it to mean "future version of SONAR, or whatever it might be called".

Hello I have been using cakewalk since the DOS days back in the 80's.
I have used all versions of Cakewalk through Sonar Platinum which
I really like a lot. Glad to see that your company will continue Cakewalk.

Thanks
