I really don't expect the core functionality to change that much, BandLab already has a good set of cloud based collaboration tools for making music. What they don't have is a deeper more professional software product to sell to their customers who get hooked and want to go further and get more serious. Enter Cakewalk.

Sir Les

I understand nothing of jibberish....I bought a program, and rights to use the program under a licence agreement....I did not buy the company, or the company that bought the company!

This is real simple.  Your license agreement was with a company named Cakewalk.  Cakewalk has ceased operations.  So in that sense, the "lifetime" of Cakewalk has expired.  No more development, no more bug fixes.  Done!

BandLab did not buy the company.  They simply bought the assets of a former company that is no longer doing business.

As an act of goodwill, BandLab has offered current Sonar holders with a free crossgrade to their future flagship program, as well as the ability to continue activating and using their currently licensed programs.  That seems very generous to me, considering that they would have had no legal obligation to do so.

So instead of being left holding a dead program, we now have the possibility for a future!

There's an irony in there!

Wow, I'm ecstatic!
I am no longer afraid to turn my laptop on online again!
Thank you so much Meng, and welcome to the community, so very happy to see that Noel and Ben are part of the acquisition team!
Looking forward to what the Sonar future holds for the best DAW in the world!

This DAW has always been the most musician/producer oriented, hope it continues in that tradition!

Well Meng,
Nearly 19,000 views ..............
Your fantastic announcement has stirred the masses.
And I dare say many......  (maybe the bulk ) of Cakewalkers .....are still oblivious to this wonderful news.
But then again................I dare say some Cakewalkers ....who are not 'tapped In' to the forums, etc (ie:too busy making music) ........perhaps new nothing of events of recent months :). LOL
Cheers

I also met with Meng at NAMM, and he definitely has a vision for Sonar and other applications.
This can only be great news for Cakewalk users and please give them some time to figure it all out.

I just came in since 2 weeks first time & am happy to read this anouncement.
But on the other hand I did not get any mail and have no idea how to crossgrade now... Still have to read all through ?
I am happy on one side for the product renewing, but confused as I does not know what to do.

A clear mail with all options to the current Cakewalk product license owners would be the right way I think.
