Well... This is fantastic news!

Noel has covered himself in glory with the way he has handled all of this throughout the process - maintaining professionalism, giving away only the slightest hints, and demonstrating a passion for the product, its user base, and the community it has built.

Gibson on the other hand - what were they thinking with the way they handled this?? It's as if they wanted to sabotage any possible future the product had. I shake my head in disbelief... They need a new PR department - stat.

Great signs here from Meng - open, transparent, not over promising...

Happy days!

I know that many (including myself) were beginning to believe that Sonar really was consigned to the scrapheap of DAW's, never to be updated again. Sonar truly is a great DAW and it would be a shame to see it die as it leaves user's computers as they are slowly forced to migrate to new programs, and new forums. I'm really pleased to hear that it has been picked up AGAIN, and I hope Bandlab can make a real go of it. It heartens me to know that Noel is still involved somehow with the transition, I would like to think he will keep the concerns of long-time Cakewalk users in the minds of the new owners, and the path of Sonar straight and true (whatever that may mean).
I did read Bandlab's FAQ's and was not buoyed by the answer that the Company 'Cakewalk' was not purchased and "there is no recourse for any previous owners of Cakewalk software", although I'm hoping that's just an out and they will realise there is a wealth of opportunity to keeping those MANY users at the forefront of the software going forward.
I've spent a bit of time at the Bandlab site and like where they're coming from, their ideas do seem very up to date and their site is very socially orientated. I do think some of their users will really benefit from programs like Sonar, Z3ta, Rapture and the like, and hope the wealth of knowledge available in this forum can be used to their advantage as well.
It seems Meng is very hands on, much like Noel was at Cakewalk, and that is very heartening. I wish him and Bandlab the very best and look forward to where Sonar is heading in the future.

So when will the store be open again... And what will the 'upgrade' option to buy be like?

Or did I miss something?

Am I Seeing Things OR Is that 22+K views on this post.....in approx 3 days .
Admittedly many of us were /are in disbelief and keep checking back for the 'Pinch Me' confirmation.
Nonetheless....Is Cakewalk experiencing some form of 'Bull Market'?
I hope so :)
Cheers

Hello Meng
I have just bought Cakewalk Sonar Professional and will be installing it later today.
I have been using Home Studio 7XL which has been absolutely fantastic. I have composed many pieces of music
over the last 9 years and it still works fine. My daughter composed all of her music for her BA Hons music course
and achieved a first class honours. I will continue to use Cakewalk and look forward to any future developments and upgrades. The product is so good, much more intuitive than any other software, I believe that Cakewalk has a bright future ahead.

Best wishes

You probably missed something.  Meng said in the OP that their intension is for all owners of Sonar (any version) to have a free of charge migration path to the new "Sonar by BandLab"  (or whatever it will be called).
I'm guessing the first version will be exactly the same as the current version but with all the branding and copyright notices, etc. changed, as that would be the most logical method for a seamless transition.

That sounds like a Magix move.  I'm hoping for more than that, but I'm not expecting any major new features (except collaboration/BandLab integration) in SONAR for a while.
