Great news! As long as I don't have to sink a chunk of money into a new BandLab/Cakewalk/Whatever It Will Be Called product, I will gladly switch back as long as it works as well as Sonar Platinum does and all of my current projects still work.

After Gibson announced it was killing off Cakewalk, I invested in Pro Tools and a lot of education to make sure I could use it to its fullest. I don't want to sound like I'm knocking PT, it's a great product, but Sonar Platinum is just so much nicer to use and does not have the glitches/crashes, or is as much of a resource hog as PT can be on the PC platform. The only thing I found that I use constantly where PT has an edge is in its Midi editing capabilities and how you are able to change some things in your tracks. Sonar has a much better midi event list editor though.

So here is the thing - as a lifetime update "owner" I'm reluctant to spend huge sums to get a new name for my DAW. THAT SAID - I want the new DAW to be totally awesome and worth spending big bucks on... and in the long run, I just might be willing to spend money for new features and functions.

Files are going to be 100% compatible and we're not making any big changes in the first release. As Meng mentioned earlier, we prefer to under promise and over deliver. Somehow I think users are going to be pleasantly surprised however :)

I guess the important thing in a business sense is to get everything rolling and the product live again. Hearing the timescale was reassuring, because you can't simply recreate a new DAW in the that time based on the technology Meng has acquired.

I guess I'm expecting  the same sonar in a new BandLab Theme, with fixes and new features that were already in development at the time of the Cake's closure. The more new features you can squeeze in the more of a new product and the bigger the fresh release will feel from a marketing approach.

Super news again,Meng. I could care less about the name.  Though I suppose a good name makes it more marketable which helps your company continue.

Reading the recent "update" regarding a new installation program will we be able to open current cakewalk projects in the new DAW? and what about the ProChannel modules we have purchased, will they still be compatible?

Noel - On the subject of ProChannel modules, will they be back on sale at any point? I really fancied getting the PC4K S-Type Channel Compressor.

Maybe it's going to bundled along with the concrete limiter.

I'm with Jonesy on his iteration of the new DAW name. Great idea Jonesy.
My laptop is dying a slow death at the moment and I have been seriously researching alternative DAW products so I could make a change. Now, however, my favorite DAW is making a comeback and I'm glad I've waited this long before making a change. I'm looking forward to what the future brings and REALLY glad I can port my old projects into the upcoming software.
I do have a question. My current version of Sonar is 32bit. Will this new software be available in a 32bit version, and/or, is it possible to change to a 64bit version of this new program and port my old projects over from a 32bit version? I don't know if this was even possible with the old Sonar, but I would dearly love to be able to do this now that my hand is being forced in regards to my dying laptop.

Noel, will there be a new version of the Cakewalk Store? Will ProChannel modules again be available?
