The subscription model is an absolute turn off for me.

As it is for a lot of people,  which is why we fought so hard to stop people calling what we had a "subscription",  it wasn't, it was a payment plan.  There's a BIG difference.

Why am I even bothering with this now?  Because I'm sure a lot of people were put off at the thought of the "fake news" subscription,  and now it's being brought up again and those same folk will see the word "subscription" and go elsewhere.  Which is a shame.

Please guys, stop talking about subscription, we never had it.

I don't think those that call it a subscription want to stop calling it that, even if most of us knows that it never was one

Yeah, I think a lot of the people who called it a subscription were doing so dishonestly. I think people who actually thought it was that were a minority (of people active in the forums). Why people do this kind of thing isn't at all clear to me, but I expect them to carry on doing it.

Positively Charged
I'd rather find an open source competitor for basic document, spreadsheet, and presentation tools.

It was a subscription plan.  If you didn't keep paying, you got no fixes or support.  If you wanted to resume the subscription, you had to make catch-up payments.

But I don't care what you want to call it.  Makes no difference to me.  If Bandlab comes up with a similar scheme (no matter what you try to call it), I'm not buying.

And there we go...

If you don't keep your car payments they take your car away..  that doesn't make it a subscription.

You agreed a fixed price to own the software which you paid off in monthly instalments.  Don't keep up the payments and they take it away.

This is the last post on the subject.  People are put off by subscription, we never had it.

Further posts re subscription will be removed.

I was hoping for eventual news like what has transpired over the last week or so.  It appears our platform will be in good hands.  The open communication and acknowledgement of user concerns is very encouraging.

Looking forward to seeing what's next, and feeling a bit more secure about continuing to create with an old friend that we've all enjoyed for years.

Kudos Meng and BandLab !

Please do so, Karyn.
Those peeps are plainly mistaken, and will NEVER admit it

probably too late now, but what did make it -ahem- similar to a subscription, was the 1 year thing (not including the lifetime updates) that then had to be renewed for another year, whether paid for in full in one go, or spread over a year.. this can be most clearly seen in the "season pass" thing on steam
