Hi

I've composed a multi-track piece in MC6 including MIDI and audio tracks and now want to increase the tempo for the entire composition - that is, make it run faster, as the composition is dragging a bit - is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks

Not really. Let me explain.

Increasing the tempo of the midi is a simple thing. Simply change the tempo in the project tempo window and it will respond accordingly.

Audio is a totally different matter. While there are some plugs and apps that claim to stretch or shrink audio, the art and science is still not perfect.

It is best to go ahead and plan to record the audio tracks again at the new tempo.

Thx Herb!

I tried for the Midi track, but it only changes at the current (NOW) point - I tried selecting the entire track and changing the tempo setting, but it still changes only at that point ... looks like I'm being stupid :( must be missing something totally ....

I bet you have copy-pasted MIDI-clips there ?
If so, there's a tempo definition at the beginning of each clip. You need to change them all.
I don't know if it's the Event List or Tempo View in MC6 that is used for that.

What I would do is finish work on the project, convert all the MIDI tracks and soft synths to audio, export that final audio mixdown, import it into another project and go to Process>Length. Set it to say, 85% and it will shorten the track, thus speeding it up without changing pitch. Undo if it's still not the right speed and choose another value.
Just read in the MC 6 Help file that it also works on MIDI. Not sure if it alters the tempo of the project, though.
Read more in the Help file.
