Most people who buy sonar and lifetime updates would assume it would last more than a year especially since the software has been around for decades in cakewalk pro audio.

I bought it.  But I also recognized it was a very clear signal that either the whole thing would shut down or else they would end the "SONAR" brand and launch a new "DAW II" that would require a new purchase.  I figured the "lifetime" would be about 2 years.  But when I heard of the support services being cut back deeply, the picture became rather clear.  Caveat emptor.
