  • I fancy getting a decent Graphic Equaliser... (p.2)

Normally I use a PSP parametric EQ on tracks ... I find it very intuitive.  It is the PSP Neon HR and comes in 3 flavor:

But, I've used the Blue Cat Liny EQ and really liked it.  Here is an example (and a shameless plug):

During the breakdown of the verse that starts just after 1:30, I used the Liny (graphic) EQ to give the vocal a little bit of a megaphone effect.  I liked it more than the EQ in the Voxengo Voxformer which is also on the track, the PSP and some of the other parametrics I tried.

[EDIT] ... actually, I was shooting for a bit of a speaker in the front dash effect.

If you decide to spring for Pro-Q, shoot me a PM with your email address first. I'll send you a referral email that will get you 10% off.

I should have hired Dan Worrall to help me sell my house. He could sell saunas in the tropics.

Does that 10% off work on top of say like a 25% discount @holiday season?

I'm thinking of the Pro bundle but want to wait until they have a sale say @ christmas time and if I could get an additioanl 10% off then I like to do so.

I don't remember if that applies on top of a sale price or not. I'm thinking that it doesn't, but I could be wrong about that.

If that is the case, then you're better off waiting for the Christmas sale (assuming they'll be doing it again this year) to buy a bundle. Individual plugins, however, haven't been included in most previous sales - just bundles - so the referral has been the only way to get a break on individual plugins.

What about the Toneboosters Eq - what I like about it(apart from the price) is that it has a built in spectrum analyzer so that you can see how your tweaking is affecting the frequencies......its similar to the pro-q eq.....I wouldn't mind knowing how this plugin compares to the fabfilter pro-q....anyone??

The TB EQ is a great bargain. It probably offers 80% of the functionality of Pro-Q for 20% of the price. What you don't get are Mid/Side processing, oversampling, unlimited number of filters, K-metering, +-30db gain, pre/post/pre+post spectrum options, and linear-phase modes.

Hi Andy, "OK Peeps"...I must be a peep cause I sure ain't the head pecker lol.......anyways just my .002 here. Last night I needed a decent EQ on a mix  and I decided to try the new RX in X2. I really like the way it works! Instead of thinking in terms of frequency numbers and "slots" I was able to make a really good surgical EQ with it. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish with a GEQ but the RX sure fits well into my EQ toolbox.

I had an electric guitar that had a little bit of fizz and digital distortion. The RX took it right out.

Out of the above, I would miss the Mid/Side processing for sure and I was impressed at the way it was used in the tutorial video I watched.

So if I had to choose, I would have to go for the more expensive option methinks.

@ Starise - Yeah, I've been having a bit of a play with R-Mix myself (erm... is that what you mean when you say RX?) so I know where you're coming from. I think the main problem with it though is that with just one instance of it you can only work with a rectangular of oval shape to work on the frequencies. Whereas with an EQ, of what ever type, you can cut and bust differently right across the spectrum. Still a great tool though and I'm sure I will use it one day.

Ya R-Mix sorry for the typo. Seems to work great on isolation of certain frequencies.
