It does have that great grey-on-grey common color scheme.

BUT!!   all those one click buttons!!!!

Didn't those guys get the memo that the last couple of years were all about "decluttering?" Adding menus for everything? Adding extra clicks everywhere to help improve "workflow." To help the smart tool be many smart tools?

Looks like it may be too easy to use.

LOL....

Don't ya hate when that happens....

All I know is if it's anywhere near as solid on Windows as it is on a Mac....there's gonna be a big hurt on the PC DAW's....

Don't get me wrong...I love Sonar....but I think doing a few minor (yes minor) innovations to a program, and adding a few
cool new Plugins does not a Major Upgrade make....and don't all you fan bois go gettin' your panties in a bunch...
and most other DAW's have had those things for a while now....so it's not like its a "major" leap forward....

One of the things I find "odd" about X2 is ....you can scroll the ProChannel (which is nice) in the Inspector, but NOT the Channel Strip...that..to me, is just kinda dumb...it forces you to go to the Mixer view to scroll, but, hey, that's just me I guess...as well as a few other oddities...but, hey...it is what it is...

I've always had an interest for DP but never had the opportunity to actually use it.

Two friends of mine use it from time to time, one mostly for compatibility reason though he doesn't like it all that much, and the other, who has been using it for years along w/ Pro Tools and Logic.

We were actually discussing about that stuff last night and one key selling point for him is scoring to movies - that's the main reason he's still using it. However, even if he likes it for certain things, he told me he finds himself using it less and less because it isn't as straight forward as Logic.

I hear that ...I think they've made some major improvements in that department with DP 8....if Logic ever went Cross Platform....the whole game would change I'm sure...

I'd certainly like to DEMO this program.  Now that I know I can return it if not content...that's a good
reason to "try" before you buy...but still have to fork out the $400 bones up front...and go through the
headaches of a "return process"...maybe one day they'll get a demo up....would behoove them to do so...

If Pro Crap ever makes it to 64 bit, that will be a big deal as well....( sorry - I have a huge dislike for Pro Tools - their customer  support and product support is horrendous...one can only hope they are working on MAJOR improvements)

BOTH of those things would really shake up the PC DAW market...

And Stinkburg/Cubase would have to seriously rethink their strategy if they were to remain viable...Cubase has
some pretty incredible features...and Stinkburg has just released Nuendo LIVE, too...but if Logic and DP BOTH
went CP.....there would be mountains being moved....by everyone in the PC DAW game.

I don't see the venerable DAWS "moving mountains" to be honest.

There are a stack of them - including Sonar- but they cannot compete on price to the Lite Daws such as Reaper/Studio One etc.

I've mostly read about all the famous people who use Digital Performer (sounds like a porn studio), but have never actually seen it let alone used it. Samplitude is another one in the same boat- lots of Pro users apparently but no one I have ever met.

Logic- I don't know where the Mac crowd think that is going. Maybe they might just call it Garageband and give it away free from now on.  Probably more pros use Logic than Pro Tools though.

I own Sonar, Reason and Nuendo and all three are terrific in their own way.

It seems there are no new ideas in the DAW world now- the new ones are about 10 years behind and catching up very slowly (Reaper you couldn't even call "new code" anymore) and the old ones like Sonar and Cubase just chug along trying to stay cool.

IMHO, Logic is doing just fine. Even if it's a few years old, version 9 is still pretty awesome. I think the idea is to give people a glimpse of Logic w/ Garage Band and then when they feel the need to upgrade to something bigger, then Logic only makes sense. Garage Band being similar to OEM software and all those light/free versions that you get w/ hardware.

For $200, Logic is probably the least expensive option out there (cheaper than a commercial license for Reaper).

Personally, it's the software I've seen the most often out there among songwriters and composers.

At least DP 8 gives you "themes" where you can change the appearance and the color scheme....that's a bonus...
At least you can choose how you want it to look!

As an owner of MOTU Ethno 1 and former owner of BPM, I've been VERY disappointed by their support for their software.  They are terrible when it comes to keeping them updated, fixing bugs, keeping their customers informed, etc.  That's been my experience, at least.

I think that DP may be tempting for some Sonar users as it addresses 2 long-standing issues w/ Cakewalk products - notation and video.

Come to think of it - that's $400 for the crossgrade. Anyone who wants to try it out w/o trading their current software will have to pay $795.

Even if it's refundable, it's simply ridiculous, imho.

Also notice that the Windows version isn't available just yet (final testing stages).

Considering that they originally announced that version 8 would ship "Spring 2012", I'm not sure what to make of that...
