It's amazing that Lewis and Clark found their way to the West Coast with out an iPhone 5.  :-)
Fortunately, the natives had one and could point the way. The Siri tribe were especially helpful.

does anyone (besides me) watch Big Bang Theory?  there's an episode where Raj "falls in love" with Siri.  I LOVED the ending to that one!

Pocahontas must have been on this trip with them then, because I can't see a man asking for directions.

I think I've decided the iPhone. Hmmmm.....4S or 5? I don't like the idea of the lightning connector for some reason.

Well that is just the thing mate, there exists no real big difference between the 4, the 4s, and the 5.  Siri, ok, and maybe better graphics and faster chips as you progress through the 3.

The big problem, is the ios was a lot nicer, and way more privacy oriented, and not so tied into twitter and facebook when I first got my iphone, which must have been around ios 3 or 4.

ios 6 is terrible.

I think you are deciding to go with the iPhone 5, and honestly, I am not sure if that is the greatest decision.  IMHO, before you do this, you owe it to yourself to give the windows phones a good look.

Android sucks..   I plain, "do not like android."  Mostly because I can not stand google as a company, but believe me, the innovation factor from Apple has lagged, and lagged badly since the passing of Steve Jobs.

My company was going to go to Windows phones and that is actually when I made the decision to get my own iPhone and get on the company re-embersement plan.  My issue with the Windows phones, about a year ago, was that they just did not have many apps that were written for them.  My experience has been that the iPhone/ iPad apps come out first followed by Android.  That is probably changing a little with the Galaxies starting to take over market share.

In my family we have a 4, 4s and I have the 5.  Honestly, my wife's 4s is not much different than the 5.  I went with the 5 because phone contracts are usually for 2 years. If you get a 4s, you will be starting out a couple years behind the latest model.  That may not matter to you.  I plan on getting another one when this contract is up, so I am just trying to stay current.  The 5 is a little faster than the 4s because it is 4G LTE.

As far as the lightening plug goes... I really like it.  It can be plugged in either direction, there is no up or down.  My phone charges really fast, much faster than the old plug.

If you like, want, or need a lot of apps, then there is not even a question, windows phone, at the current moment in time, will not work at all.

So with the iphone you have to pay a fee every month right.. 30 or 40 bucks? I have never had one so I am not sure of the details.
With the S3 or HTC do you also have to pay a monthly fee and is either the iphone or the (HTC/S3) a brick without some monthly data plan? I need to buy two smart phones really soon, like today or tomorrow... the tape that holds the trackball in my blackberry is coming off again... it is time.

Thanks,

J

I worked with a guy who has a galaxy...not sure which model it was. We were often working as a pair and so I would hear his comments on the phone quite a lot.

His two biggest problems with it were 1. The screen GUI is such that he would constantly be accidentally touching the wrong controls. In trying to do certain things on the phone he would have difficulty. Didn't appear to be very user friendly. 2. His battery didn't last very long. He would come to work fully charged and his battery would be drained before the end of the day. The battery in my iphone 4 and my wifes iphone 5 lasts for days.

I am a little upset with Apple for going to the lightning connector, but in hindsight I can understand adding something that makes the phone lighter and allows the connector be put in any way you want. Unfortunately the accessory makers might take a year to catch up. In the interim you can buy an adapter that works with most accessories, and the phone comes with a matching charger.

I have the latest iOS and have not had any troubles other than the aforementioned Apple maps. Apples attempt to get in on maps.
