I just talked to my daughter who has an iphone. She said that she and her husband have a shared plan and they pay 176 dollars a month, 450 shared minutes, 20 dollar data plan (unlimited, they were "grandfathered in" to the unlimited plan). I have the same sort of thing on my Blackberry but I am pretty sure I will lose it if I leave RIM, which I am going to do... My other daughter is visiting from Germany. She has an HTC and said it costs her 20 euros a month for everything because their laws are different. I really don't like spending so much on a cell plan but I guess there is no alternative. I use AT&T because I get coverage pretty much everywhere, especially when I get out in rural areas. I hope I can keep my 6,000+ rllover minutes...

So... data plans, texting plans (I don't text unless I have to). Is everything pretty much equal whether I go with the iphone, HTC, or S3 ?? Of course I will want to use some sort of interface and cardslider... are there any considerations in those areas that might unplesantly surprise me... I really know nothing about any of it. Quality is important, not dropping calls is very important, price comes after but does matter to me.

Thanks,

J

I pay something freaking ridiculous for my iPhone unlimited data with AT&T, something like $120/month. I'm pretty sure I could whittle that down a little if I looked into the different plans properly, but every time I sit down and try to work out what's going on with the charges I get confused. Plus when it's a business expense it's so easy to just think "screw it." I see these companies like Metro PCS that offer "everything" for like $50/month but I can't help but think that you get what you pay for.

I haven't tried this service, but I heard about it recently. I'll just leave this link right here:https://ting.com/ You can even compare it with your current price plan.

AT&t now has an unlimited voice and unlimited texting, shared plan where you get to chose the amount of Data you want to share, 2g, 4g, 6g.  Comes with Tethering as well, which I plan on using when traveling for business.  I thought the rates were pretty competitive for 2 phones.  It fell with in my companies $85 a month allowance anyway for my half.

iPhone works well with the forum too, this response is from my phone.

Thanks Mike, I just got back from my local AT&T store. That's the plan with 6 gig shared that I'm going with. They couldn't set me up with a phone because their system was down. I think they talked me out of the iphone in favor of the Galaxy S4.

You are 1000% better off WITH an iPhone.  Do not even trust or believe this Samsung fad.

Well I was thinking about trying the HTC One when my upgrade comes up in May but apparently it has a fixed battery that you cannot switch. That sucks for heavy users who don't get a chance to recharge during the day. I ended up spending $90 on a bulky charging case for my iPhone, I don't want to have to do that again if I get another phone. Maybe the S4 is a possibility after all. Or maybe I'll just stick with my iPhone. Dammit, why do I always feel like I have to upgrade anyway?

well, you buy what you like but all the evidence stacks up against this comment...Samsung currently outsells Apple 2:1 and Android installed base has grown to more than 3x that of ios, and Android was recently voted "easiest to use" over ios.. an os that has not substantially changed in 6 years...mebbe HTC will overtake Samsung..who knows and who cares.. Android is currently unstoppable.

my ipad was the single most useless thing i have ever purchased.... absolutely everything else in my house will talk to each other and share media... Blackberry, Samsung phone, Sony TV, Sharp DVD player, HP computer, Dell laptop.... and then there is the iPad...sulks in the corner like the fat kid that nobody wants to have on their team..

Incorrect.  Android is actually growing more slowly than Windows phone.  If Windows Phone continues to grow like this, it will overtake both Android and Apple within 5 years.
