The bridge floats on the top so it can be positioned better.
I'm going to try to put the slots in the new bridge in the right place.

Honestly, I think maybe your practiced eye may have caught the fact that the previous owner had raised the pickup in its mount so that it slants dramatically upwards towards the high E string.
It sounds like it too. It's too pronounced and unbalanced compared to the neck pickup.
I'll fix that with the set up.
I thought about a Callaham bridge, but I think I'd like to carve up a nice simple one after I use the tune o matic and my choice of strings to get it right.
