I have a song in the works that I'm writing for my daughter. It's something that gets me all misty when I work on it so it's been in the works for a year.

Have you ever worked on a song that is so sad...

... that it makes you feel sad?

Why no.

No I haven't.

Cure songs never depress me.

Me neither.

But then again, after giving it a bit of thought, I can't really imagine people jumping around and being playful while recording an album like Faith or Seventeen Seconds. I mean, for pretty much any album, but even more so w/ albums like these.

I guess some people need to forget about the gloomy stuff for a while and put on the ole Hawaiian shirt every now and then. I can understand how it can be suffocating, in theory.

Here's the interview, btw.

I actually remember listening to Disintegration while wearing a Hawaiian shirt.  Had some mushroom tea as well.  We put a sofa out on the front lawn for a fun summer night.

LOL That must have been a night.

I am almost certain that a Hawaiian shirt even just touching my skin would mean my disintegration. ;)

I've worn Hawaiian shirts that made other people sad.  Of course, I've also worn pants that made my Hawaiian shirts look drab and conservative.  When people convulse after catching a glimpse of you, you've know you've done something right.

Oh bugger....

Seeing as I've never worked on a song that is so sad that it made me feel sad, I decided to try working on a sad song to see if it made me feel sad.

However, my new song "Drowning unwanted orphaned puppies in a toxic stream where all the fish are dead and are glowing neon green and the world is ending also by the way" didn't make me at all sad.

But when I changed the title of the song slightly to "Drowning unwanted orphaned puppies who have terminal cancer and smell a bit whiffy in a toxic stream where all the fish are dead and are glowing neon green and the world is ending also by the way" did make me a little sad...

But only because I couldn't find a good rhyme for "whiffy" (any help gratefully received).

"jiffy"?

You're a lifesaver Col.

I only had this and I was really struggling:
"Phew these orphaned puppies are starting to reek a bit whiffy; I'll pop down the stream and drown them in a few minutes"

This is why I don't write lyrics

Arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Now I've gone and done it.

I have actually worked on a song that is so sad that it made me feel sad...

Emotional even.

In fact, it reduced me to tears

I'll set about recording it asap....

Just keep a look out for "Your Round Straummy" when I post it in the Songs forum.
