Following Acoustic Samples it looks like another high quality developer may be abandoning Kontakt.

Sonokinetic's latest bagpipes offering is compatible with UVI workstation and MachFive Full version, not Kontakt. Note that the "free" UVI workstation is  not actually free, its $50 unless you own an iLok already.

When Acoustic Samples made the switch they discontinued the Kontakt versions of all their products almost over night. I certainly hope that won't happen here, but if you have been planning on buying one of their Kontakt products it may be worth making that purchase sooner rather than later.

A bit more info in this forum thread. http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27685

  From Sonokinetic:

""Sonokinetic Ltd. will support either exclusive, OR combined multi format libraries. We will determine that from case to case."

I will be intresting to see how this pans out.

When NI stitched me up "like a kipper" with Kore, I went UVi. No issue as I already had an  iLok etc.
The free player is good and Mach 5 is even better.
Probably the best thing for me, UVi seem to have REAL people available to discuss matters with and they are VERY helpful.

Already looked at Bagpipes - I purchased a real practice set about 6 months ago and the learning process is ongoing. I think there are a lot of people who may want me to buy the software version for some reason or another - however if they want me to stop my learning of the real thing, I think contributions will be required! To help them with their generosity I am letting them know that Bagpipe playing is a real art that I am sure could take me YEARS to master!!!!!

Hi Glyn,

FWIW, Acoustic Samples became an official developer for Mach 5.
Dropping support for Kontakt was out of business obligation.

Mach 5 is great in many ways... (scripting is more advanced than Kontakt 5)
But its disk-streaming is far less efficient than Kontakt.

Kontakt is industry standard  , much like the akai was back in the late 80's and 90's+

I'm not a fan of NI any more (another burned Kore user) , but I'll phase out their stuff very gradually (when it becomes un-usable)

it's actually a pity Roland / Cakewalk don't take them (and halion etc) on with a soft sampler and get help from known samplists from different era's / genre's. Not just put it out as another one.. Bet there is LOADS of sound libs roland could include with it.

Cakewalk should develop Dimension Pro into a full blown streaming sampler...

I have also been phasing out my NI products and the only one I really use these days is Kontakt....

It's a rock solid product, but I feel that the NI audio engines leave a little to be desired...

For example - AAS Tassman has a really clunky GUI and the handling is a little funky - but the sound is really great and it craps all over Reaktor - which sounds too "artificial" in comparison..

Same deal with Guitar Rig Pro...ReValver and Scuffham S-Gear blow GR out of the water when it comes to sound quality...GR Pro - like most NI products - sounds a little too "polished" and "artificial"....

I still have Komplete and a few other NI products but the're getting a little too "DJ" for me now
