  • Any Recommendation for a 64bit Sample Player that supports Giga?

I'm sure I asked about this before but didn't find it searching just now...

...and I'm hoping something has changed.

I've been using VSampler to play my Gigastudio sample in the 32bit world...

Now moving to 64bit I find that the DXi's don't work and the vst is only 32bit and will not load in X1

I found a sampler called Linux Player (?) but it's very weird and seems to be missing some features that are important for me...

First off it seems to lead FXTeleport so it is actually not even local. It's running online somehow and it's surprising that it works as well as it does.... I might have lived with that for a time, but I tried to add an lfo to modulate the pitch (vibrato) with a midi controller as I often do and can't find any such abilities in it.

Any info regarding the use and the working of this synth would be helpful...

But even better would be a recommendation for a solid Sample Player that can load/play Gigasampler libraries...

Much Thanks...
Keni

You probably won't like the answer... but I'd bite the bullet and get Kontakt (Komplete)
It'll load/play Giga libraries... and (obviously) a whole lot more.

+1....Kontakt is a great sample player....not sure if the Kontakt Player will play Giga samples or not...but if it does the Player is FREE!

I converted most of my older Giga VSL libraries with Kontakt. It works pretty well for the most part.
I also have SampleLord that I purchased before I got Kontakt. That works for well for many types of files too including Giga but it hasn't been updated for a while.
There's a few others that I can't remember at the moment...

Nothing to lose, except for burning a bit of band width, in trying the free Kontakt player, but I suspect the Gig files will only work in demo mode and time out after 20?? minutes. It will however give you a chance to see if you like the interface.

Giga format is dead... and support is going to get worse over time.
Ultimately (unfortunately)... you're going to be forced to a different soft-sampler.
It's not cheap, but (IMO) you're best off taking that $150 and applying it toward Kontakt.

There is a free gigaplayer called CV Piano-GVI Powered by Tascam. It comes with a free piano that is quite good. This is a free download. I can't remember the link but you should be able to launch a search. It is still out there somewhere because I tipped someone asking for freebie pianos and they found it. They were really impressed with it. Anyway, it comes as a sixteen track player and you can load your other giga instruments. You do have to use ReWire if you want to use it in Sonar. Good Luck!

I have GVI as well as GS3. I didn't bother installing either for use in Win7/ 8.5 or X1.
Both were a PITA imo.
It may work & be suitable for the OP but going the Kontakt route would be my suggestion too.
A better solution in the long run.

Thanks Jim... Glyn... JonD...

So sad... I'm so broke. But I can't lose my Will Lee Bass Sample Library. It's still the best set of bass samples I've found anywhere...

Yup... I know the giga format is dead, but if you have a library (I have very little other than the bass), it's like keeping an old instrument for it's value...

I have the Kontakt player on my 32bit system and I can't say I've been very fond of the interface... but if it does the job I'd get used to it. I seem to remember that the player will only load a small subset of library they provide? I might be wrong...

The gplayer looks very interesting... $150 for my bass guitar... Cheap... Too bad I don't even have that! <sigh>... But I will keep that in mind as it would be fine for the bass alone. I know that Kontakt is more versatile as it loads so many formats and still has a life of it's own, but the price stretches me even further... and this player shouldn't need support other than bugfixes (?) as the format and feature set will never change. So it's safe until VST support changes somehow...

Right now my workaround is relatively simple but I'm sure I'll get tired of it fast... I simply do my bass work in Sonar32 and freeze it then switch to Sonar64 for other work.... back and forth as necessary...

I'm overwhelmed with trying to get a new machine setup to replace my 32bit system as I have such a robust setup with an old seriel emagic Unitor8 feeding a JLCooper Synapse and SSL/Soundscape Mixtreme 16 i/o.... I don't want to change that system as it works fine other than being underpowered...

I have another Unitor8 but it seems it will be useless as it's seriel and all I can find online tells me that a seriel2usb connection or seriel PCIe card won't work on my new MacPro (for this gadget) and neither will my Mixtreme 192 (PCI, not PCIe as the Mac supports)... So I'm busy trying to get around all this with no money.

I got a Tascam US1800 which is the only gadget I found with support for Vista64 (a temporary HP, liguid-cooled, 64bit system while building the Mac) so I got it and was immediately sadly disappointed at it's lack of proper monitoring ability... No wonder it's so cheap.... But I'll leave it connected to the HP when I migrate to the Mac and hopefully get a more realistic interface to run under win7 Pro there...

I digress... You can tell I've got a lot on my mind about this situation... ;-)

I'll checkout the Kontakt issues a bit more and keep an eye on the gplayer as it appears either will suffice for the bass library I'm trying not to lose...

Many thanks for the suggestions...

BTW... Have any of you checked out the Linux Player? Any thoughs?

Keni
