  • Any Recommendation for a 64bit Sample Player that supports Giga? (p.2)

A couple of things -
1) I agree about Kontakt. Awesome and well worth purchase. Some things you may not have thought about however.
A) You can find it for sale/re-sale sometimes, and NI will transfer licenses. KVR is a good source for deals - Here is one from late August for $200 (full Kontakt 5 unopened) - http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/search.php?search_id=2125818942&start=30
might be gone, but a good indicator of what you might expect to pay. Should be able to find older versions (although I believe you need at least 4.2.x for compatibility with most current sample sets).
B) If you have any Kontakt Player based libraries - you can buy Kontakt for crossgrade pricing - currently $279 at NI but this goes on sale depending on the timing and upgrade cycle. I think I bought Kontakt 4 (as a crossgrade) for $119-ish a few years ago. Very cheap anyway. Be careful though, as the platform you are upgrading from has to be the Kontakt player version - the site lists Garritan Personal Orchestra for example, but unless you have an OLD version (before Garritan went to their own Aria sampler), it won't allow you to register.
2) I have loaded VSampler on my current DAW, SONAR X1d (expanded, 64 bit), because I had some old samples I wanted to use elsewhere and convert. One thing VSampler was great at was sample conversion. I don't use it, but it seems to work fine on my system under bitbridge. However, this is an updated version (3.5.2) so maybe that's the difference.

Keni -
I checked the VSampler (Maz-Sounds) website - and it seems that they do allow license transfers of the full version - so if you are not already running the updated ("non-OEM") version, I would be happy to ask them to transfer my license to you at no cost to you. PM me your contact information and email address, and I'll put in the request - the caveat is that the product is not supported anymore (or for years), and I am not sure there is anyone on the other end to actually do this - but I am willing to give 'er a shot if you are.

From their Website -
8. Am I allowed to sell my VSampler license to another person, e.g. when I migrate to Mac? There are two different answers, depending on whether your purchased serial number was part of an OEM package or not:
  • OEM version (e.g. "VSampler 3.0 DXi" included with Cakewalk Sonar 3 PE): OEM versions of VSampler are not allowed to be sold outside of the complete OEM package. Please contact the manufacturer of the package (e.g. Cakewalk in case of Sonar 3 PE) for details on selling the package.
  • independent DXi/VSTi/ReWire/Standalone version: Yes, just tell us email address + postal address of seller (you) and buyer and we'll send a new key to the buyer.

Just a bump for Keni - I also PM'd you.
My last post was so long-winded (I write 24 minute "songs" too). LOL) you may not have seen the last part -
In a nutshell, if you are interested I will transfer my VSampler 3.5 license to you at no cost (I am able to run it fine in X1 64 bit). All assuming someone at Maz-sounds/VSampler is still around to do the transfer, of course.
PM me your contact information if you are interested.

There is a free gigaplayer called CV Piano-GVI Powered by Tascam. It comes with a free piano that is quite good. This is a free download. I can't remember the link but you should be able to launch a search. It is still out there somewhere because I tipped someone asking for freebie pianos and they found it. They were really impressed with it. Anyway, it comes as a sixteen track player and you can load your other giga instruments. You do have to use ReWire if you want to use it in Sonar. Good Luck!

Thanks Sidroe...

It was difficult, but I found a site that actually allowed me to d/l GVI itself without a CC.... But I got the sometimes noted errors regarding dll's missing from the machine so it wouldn't load...

Then more investigation came up with a tascam ftp site to d/l the CVPiano... So I've downloaded it but have yet to try it... This would be wonderful if it works but so far all info I've found claims it won't run under Vista/Win7.... I'll be trying later today...

Thanks again...

You are more than welcome,Keni! I am running GVI in X1 Expanded on Windows 7 with no problems at all. I will check here to see how it worked for you. I may have to burn some brain cells to remember if there was a certain way to get it to work. I don't think there was any problems as far as I can remember now. There are better pianos out there, I know, but this one is not near as bad as some of the pianos in the TTS. I did like the noise of the dampers and the sustain pedal a lot. It will run your other gigas and that is what's important. Hope it works for you.

Hi Sidroe...

I got the CVPiano installed and it's working fine, but it won't allow me to add other Giga libraries... It only allows for some kind of "presets"... I can't add any other sounds... It must be limited that way as a demo for Tascam (I got this direct from them)

At least it is a decent piano. I have some others as good or better, but it is an interesting piano....

Thanks...
Keni

I'm so sorry! I went back and checked and I found out I forgot I have Gigastudio 3 from a long time ago. I hardly ever use it anymore. It was GS3 that allowed me to use the library and not the piano. I am so sorry but maybe you will find a use for the piano. I still pull it out from time to time and use it. It's a shame that Garritan bought out the Giga line and I don't see them giving any signs of intent to continue that product. At any rate, I apologize again and hope the free piano is a peace offering. LOL
