That makes perfect sense about not having to be distracted by the UI.

Hearing that explanation my suggestion about Omnisphere would be a Total distraction as it is a very complex instrument. As timidi suggested the sounds are wonderful but they do require more than just a casual tweeking to get them to work in different situations. It would not make sense for someone that only wanted to use the presets that come with it.

I have used the Scarbe RSP73 for Rhodes ever since he released them as they sounded the closest to a real Rhodes to me but I still had to go deeper into Kontakt and tweek it the way I wanted before I was satisfied. I can't even remember the number of real Rhodes stage and suitcases I have owned and sold. I wish I had just one of them back today. I really don't care for the new ones and they are way to pricey for me.

Best of luck with your endeavors as it sounds like a real work flow enhancer.

I guess it's my attraction to products that are more or less "finished."  ......   if I want a Rhodes simulation, I want to buy it from someone who has tried to make the best Rhodes simulation that they can do and not just some Rhodes samples that fit into their sampler engine.  

Check out the free demos of Arturia's emulations of hardware synths like the Moog Modular, Arp, Oberheim, etc..  I picked up the free Mini Moog and have been really surprised by the sound quality.  Very analog and very well done.  Heck, they really picked the low hanging fruit if you think about it.  They only did emulations of extremely commercially successful synths of the 60's, 70's and early 80's so they didn't really have to invent anything.  Just model it down to the nth degree.  Did I mention free demos?

Some of the classic hardware had a real character and some of that rubs off on emulations. My go to synths are GForce's Minimosta and Korg's Mono/Poly.  Some of the Arturia stuff keeps tempting me now they have dropped the prices.
 
I have Reaktor, Absynth, Massive and Z3ta +2 all or which are far more versatile but I am always drawn back to the vintage emulations as I can usually get the sound I am looking for quickly.

 I here you. One of my next purchases will be the korg legacy stuff probably get a controller and take the M1 le stuff along with all the other free lite versions they packaged. later on I can upgrade to the whole legacy package for $100 I just hope it works in win 7. Gforce minimonsta is very close on the top of my wish list as well but I think opx pro II will sneak in there before it and the demo of xils lab polykb has really been impressing me I might have to add that into the mix before GForces mini as well. Sampletron by the way is only $30 at audiodeluxe right now. That's another I may have to jump on next week $30 is just too good of a deal to pass up. between all those synths and GSI and some church organ vstis you have more firepower than yes had when Wakeman was tearing it up with Yes in the late 70's. Amazing they could do so much with so few choices. I downloaded the memorymoon demo but did not have a chance to test it yet. Probably do that tomorrow. Probably stays in tune a lot better than my old memorymoog did.

Thanks to Mod Bod and also Kev999 for mentioning GSI. I am playing with one of their One Trick Ponies and that is the Roland Space Echo GS 201. 

I used to own one and paid $500 for it in the 70's sometime and sold it for $905 a few years ago. Anyway got lots of nice delays but this plug-in definitely does the Space Echo very well. It really sounds like it a lot. The spring Reverb unit is very well represented too. Watch out it even has tape hiss just like the real thing and you have to use a gate or downward expander to clean it up.

Another very nice One Trick Pony is Dimension D from Empty Room Systems. It sounds killer and very much like the real Dimension, one of the best choruses you will hear.

Both of these are very fine alternatives to the monopoly that UAD had with these plugins. The plate reverb from ERS is also meant to be quite stunning.

I find myself, surprisingly, going back to Mr. Ray and Mr. Tramp plugs a lot. Mr. Ray has the growl in the bottom keys that a lot of the simulators just don't get. Organized Trio really gives B4 a run for it's money. Allthose GSI plugs are fantastic and they do work in 64 bit with BitBridge in X1. Mr. Ray thru a stereo chorus or panner really brings to mind the Max Middleton Rhodes sound on Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow album. It almost is exact. 

If you think Organized Trio gives B4 a run for the money, try VB3, which sounds a lot more like a Hammond with Leslie than Organized Trio does.  VB3 sounds like it costs a lot more than it does.
